VICTOR IN MEADOW BROOK » Feature of Thursdays Belmont Racing Falls to Carabinier. ♦ Old Dnfltl-tr Soundly Beaten — Whetstone Scores In Mile Rare for Fillies and Mares — San Altos Prores Best * NEW YORK, N. Y.. June 11.— Carabinier racing under the silk of Thomas H. McCreery was winner of the Meadow Brook Steeplechase Handicap at Belmont Park today and it was the big offering of the afternoon. The Grten-tree Stables Damask, closing a big gap, raced to second place and F. M. Algers Glen Beagh, after making all the pace, saved third from H. W. Maxwells Vox Populi II trtti Joseph E. Wideners old Duettiste last of the company. The race was worth ,975 to the winner and was over the two and a half miles course. The other races furnished a fitting back-grot. nd for the cross country feature and there was a crowd of goodly proportions on hand to see the sport. The weather was cool and delightful, the track at its best. In the Meadowbrook the five horses left in the same stride and Glen Reagh at once moved into a good lead, with Duettiste going after him. Carabinier was not permitted to drop as far out of the running as has been the habit of McNair in handling him, while Vox Populi II. was under double wraps alongside of the McCreery jumper and Damask brought up the rear. After racing in attendance upon Glen Reagh for about half a mile Byers eased Duettiste back slightly and as he did so Carabinier moved into second place and was racing along under a nice steadying restraint. Then Duettiste stumbled slightly at a couple of the jumps and lost some ground. Vox Populi II. was going well and Damask began to make up ground when the back field was reached. As McNair moved up with Carabinier and ranged alongside Glen Reagh, Ferguson shook up the Alger fencer and the pair of them were lapped for a few hundred yards, but Carabinier shook him off when the upper end of the field was reached and from there to the finish the result was never in doubt. In the meantime Damask had worked his way up until he had the others well beaten and, while beaten four lengths for the prize he was six lengths before the tired Glen Reagh. When Duettiste was soundly beaten he was eased up right at the end to finish last of the field. Whetstone from the Glen Riddle Farm Continued on sixteenth pape. VICTOR IN MEADOW BROOK Continued from first page Stable showing much improvement over her last start, was an easy winner of the one-mile race for fillies and mares run as the third. At the end she was showing the way to Walter .1 Salmons Primrose while the Rancocas Stables Koyalite outstayed Fly By, the only other starter, for the short end of the prize. Primrose was not ready when the barrier was released and she was away so poorly as to have scant chance. The others left together. Fator at once went into the lead with Koyalite. but had her under restraint as she showed the way. Whetstone and Fly By closely lapped, fallowed the Itancocas filly and Primn M was many lengths back. After leaving the back stretch Fly By had enough and she dropp-.-d back beaten. Then Johnson made his move with Whetstone and she easily raced past Koalitc. Fator was hard at work on the daughter of I.ucullite but to no avail and. she quit so badly in the last t itghth that Primrose, closing a big gap. t ok s.-. end place but did not threaten Whetstone.
