j I FINIS AT BLUE BONNETS Joy Smoke Beats Digit by Nose in Windsor Hotel Cup Handicap Bntwells Housing Finish Important Factor FactorJn Jn Whitney Racers Success Yolante YolanteWins Wins in a Romp MONTREAL Quo June 18 The Windsor Hotel Cup Handicap one of the annual fixtures of the Spring meetings at Blue Bonnets and the feature race of the Montreal Jockey Club closing days program fur ¬ nished one of the bsst contess run here during the present meeting Edward F Whitney furnished the winner in Joy Smoke which beat Digit by a ncse after a long hard stretch drive Joy Smoke was ridden by Jimmy Cutwell who put up one of his old time rousing finishes and the victory in the stake was in a great measure due to his efforts effortsRedstone Redstone which ran coupled with Digit as the Seagram entry went to the front and set a dazzling i ace considering the going and led into the home stretch where Joy i Smoke passed him Kennedy then brought Digit up and the pair fought it out to th end The Seagram horse was going the fast ¬ est at the finish and would have won in another stride or two Butwell saved ground with Joy Smoke while Digit went a bit wide at the top of the strech The mile and an eighth was run in 156 a smashing good race over a slow track trackAn An added attraction a dash at seven eighths proved a onesided affair Volante making all of the pace and winning in a romp The winner is a candidate for the Quebec Derby to be run the closing day of the Dorval meeting Trainer Queen has Volante at the top of his form just now j and if he does not stale off he will be a hard horse to beat in that feature featureGallant Gallant Greek made a show of his oppon ¬ ents in the first race a five and a half furlongs dash for Canadianbreds Clausner ClausnerI rushed him into a long lead rounding the far turn and at the end led Trail Blazer by half a dozen lengths The latter was four lengths in front of Petition PetitionA A stirring finish came with the running of j the second race when Canister just lasted long enough to stagger in a nose in front j I of Reliable Canister forced the pace from the start and after racing New Beauty into defeat at the top of the stretch drew away but at the end tired Pablo was third a length away He began slowly closed an immense gap and finished with a rush next the inside rail He would have won in few more strides Continued on sixteenth page FINIS AT BLUE BONNETS Continued from first page Another rousing finish came with the fpurth race when Jpella J came from last place in the stretch run to get up in the closing strides to win by a head from Polly Wale Amor Patriae started out like a winner and raced into a long lead the first eighth She was five lengths in front mak ¬ ing the turn for home but in the last six ¬ teenth she quit to a walk and was beaten out lonth for second money moneyDick Dick Whittins ton made a runaway of the sixth race Fisher got him off fast and in the early stages he drew away and after opening up a commanding lead was taken in hand and rated in front to the stretch turn At the end he tired and Fisher was forced to go to a drive to stall off Just JustBallotcar Ballotcar followed the leaders until they straightened out in the home stretch and then drew away to win the seventh by a length from Wedding Prince The latter was away quickly outfooted his rivals from the start and led until inside the eighth post before he weakened Gipsy Flyer was third two lengths away
