SPECTACULAR FINISH Sun Altos Beats King Gorin II Tilka and Bargain Day Double for G F Croissant Prin Princess cess Doreen Finally Avoids AvoidsTrouble Trouble and Wins LATONIA Ky June 18 The newcomer Sun Altos carrying the colors of G F Crois ¬ sant triumphed in a spectacular finish in the feature race a mile and seventy yards He won by a short half length from King Gorin II with the latter a nose better than Tilka and Bargain Day only a neck off The four leaders at the finish were driving furiously furiouslySun Sun Altos displayed a high order of speed from the start and at one stage looked as if he would be an easy winner He was fol ¬ lowed closest by Tilka with Bargain Day in third place King Gorin II coming next i a considerable distance in back He began moving up fast after half a mile but Sun Altos held steadily to his task and only in the last sixteenth did he show any inclina ¬ tion to tire His rider however plied the whip furiously and he held on gamely Tilka and Bargain Day were both victims of being ridden wide in the stretch Bargain Day especially suffered much ground loss 33 a result and with a better judged ride might have won King Gorin II was lucky to land in second place placeThe The return of good weather found an in ¬ crease in the attendance The track showed but slight traces of the heavy drenching it had undergone on the previous day and it was good at the outset and continued to improve as the day wore on onThe The racing was highly spectacular and en ¬ joyable Favorites and second choices were successful in most instances contributing profit to most of those present presentSCOOP SCOOP EASY VICTOR VICTORThe The Croissant colors made it a double during the afternoon when its Scoop another recent acquisition was an easy victor over some good platers in the closing race Scoop was not given much consideratoin and he pro ¬ fited those who supported him handsomely Lad o Mine another lightly regarded one finished in second place just outstaying Georgie The latter began slowly and came steadily when hard ridden in the stretch stretchThe The Audley Farm Stable after many trials succeeded in landing its first purse of the meeting when its crack Princess Doreen fi ¬ nally managing to avoid mishaps of bad riding and interference won from a fast band that started in the fourth race at three quarters It was in the nature of a canter for the Princess for given a hustling ride she moved promptly into a good lead and held her advantage for the entire way to win as her rider pleased The struggle for second place was a spirited on with Dudley landing that portion of the purse but he was not entitled to it and some surprise was expressed that he was not disqualified for apparently fouling Dry Moon Dudley swerved over against Dry Moon pinning him against the inner rail Stearns suc ¬ ceeded in straightening him momentarily but he again caromed into Dry Moon and managed to outstay him by a matter of inches inchesSlow Slow and Easy considered as having a royal chance before the race was a sufferer from a poorly judged ride on the part of her rider She was going well when he sud ¬ denly took her back sharply when it ap ¬ peared that Surprise would interfere with her v She moved up again approaching the lower turn but again Surprise got in her way and Williams thereafter did not persevere with her herOFF OFF SPRINGS IMPROVEMENT IMPROVEMENTOffspring Offspring showing a vastly improved form over his previous start won in the third race a mile and an eighth dash after lead ¬ ing throughout the race Tip Toe Inn fin ¬ ished in second place and Aviette third Offspring never left the result in doubt He moved into the lead at once quickly de ¬ feated his earliest followers and had enough in reserve to stall off the fast finishing Tip Toe Inn in the last eighth eighthSeveral Several good colts were shown in the second race that brought to the pest a dozen maidens A spirited finish came here with Nocturnal the winner by the narrowest of margins over Musician with Blockhead in third place Nocturnal had tho call in the race but he raced greenly though he showed gamencss in responding to Garners hard urging in the last eighth and won out in the last stride Musician also performed better under a strong rider He raced with Blockhead also an improved running one under hustling tactics and the pair staged a spirited duel for the first three eighths Blockhead seemed done at this stage and Musician the winner but sud ¬ denly Blockhead and Nocturnal challenged strongly again and the trio passed the finish noses apart
