G JOHNSONS RIDING Outstanding Attraction of Mon ¬ days Sport at Latonia Accounts for Four Winners In ¬ cluding Buckwheat Cake in the Latonia Derby Preliminary LATONIA Ky June 22 The mile and a sixteenth race for three yearolds that brought to the post some gocd ones that will start in the Latonia Derby next Saturday resulted in a victory for the Idlo Hour Stock Farm Stables Buckwheat Cakes under an energetic ride by G Johnson Old Slip show ¬ ing vastly improved form over his last start landed in second place with Sir Peter head ¬ ing the five others starting startingBuckwheat Buckwheat Cake was benefited at the start by her riders alertness It gave her an advantage and put her into a good lead and she also escaped interference as a result She displayed gameness and held sway the entire distance but it took her riders best skill to keep her in front of Old Slip The latter in contrast to his previous start startLwhen Lwhen he raced In the rear of his opponents kept in close proximity of Buckwheat Cake and at one time in the stretch appeared as if he would pass Buckwheat Cake but he tired for a fraction in trie last seventy yards and it enabled Buckwheat Cake to win by a head Sir Peter raced disappointingly He failed to display his former high speed and had to be ridden hard in the stretch to retain third place 1 1There There was considerable crowding at the first turn Caractus being the chief sufferer Sir Peter seemed to have been the offender McCoy took him over to the inner rail in front of several of the others and the rear guard appeared in a hopeless tangle for a brief space Caractus was thrown complete completej ly back and he never recovered from his early misbjip Another disappointing one was Millwick In the race He dropped com ¬ pletely out of It after threequarters of the way Deeming Old Slip and Millwick were worked an additional distance after the race as a preliminary for their Latonia Derby engagement next Saturday SaturdayJOCKEY JOCKEY McCOY SUSPENDED SUSPENDEDThe The stewards took immediate recognition of jockey McCoys rough riding and sus ¬ pended him for ten days daysHeavy Heavy clouds presaged rain during the afternoon but the racing enthusiasts seemed unmindful of a possible drenching and were out in large numbers The racing offering was fairly good though several of the con ¬ tests brought to the post some of the more ordinary here Backers of favorites did not fare well Most of the choices were downed steadily The diminutive G Johnson was an out ¬ standing star of the afternoon and he piloted four1 winners and barely missed adding an other victory to his score when he just was downed by Valence in the sixth race His successes began in the third when Snooksie Bradley enabled the J W March bank stable to score its first purse of the Kentucky season when she led home Valley Light He followed with a victory on Head ache and Buckwheat Cake in the next two races and just missed bringing Myra M home in the next race Valence which beat Myra M contributed to a double that Hal Price Headley scored during the afternoon and that owner just missed making it a triple by a matter of inches when Buckwheat Cake beat Old Slip SlipBargain Bargain Day was the disappointment for the third race She was an outstanding favorite but never figured strongly at any stage of the race She raced dully through ¬ out but was ridden weakly weaklyADA ADA BLACKJACK DISAPPOINTS DISAPPOINTSThe The outstanding disappointment of the afternoon proved to be Ada Blackjack in the fourth race She was an overwhelming favorite but retired fast and steadily after going half a mile and failed to get a part of the purse purseJockey Jockey G Johnson completed his day of successes when he made it four winners by riding Black Crackle in the closing race racej His effort on Black Crackle was highly lauded for he brought him to victory after his chances of winning seemed gone as a result of having been forced back at the halfmile ground Rocky was probably the best in the race He was away poorly and after racing last for a good way closed an Immense placeT gap to finish in fourth place T C McDowells colors scored their Initial victory of the Latonia meeting when Court Lady scored a close decision over Miss Rosedale in the introductory race the pair fighting it out resolutely during the stretch Miss Rosedale with a good display of speed was the leader from the start and disposed of the early contenders Court Lady how ¬ ever came with a deterrnined rush and ultimately triumphed Quick Lunch a recent recentI new comer here finished in third place
