DORVAlS DOUBLE FEATURE Mr Pepp Easily Trims Tangara in Lachine Purse Tamarind Accounts In Byng Handicap Dr DrCharles Charles Wells and St Qncntin QncntinIB IB Close Battle MONTREAL Que June 22 The Lachine Purse at one mile and the Byng Handicap at a mile and seventy yards were offered to ¬ day by the Dorval Jockey Club as the fea ¬ tures of their second days program at Dor ¬ val Park The first was for threeyearolds and it held additional importance as a test for the candidates for the 5000 Quebec Derby on Saturday The Byng Handicap was patterned for Canadianbreds and drew a representative field Fair weather pre ¬ vailed but the track was slow from the weekend rains About five thousand people were on hand for the afternoons sport sportHenry Henry McDaniels Mr Pepp was an easy winner of the Lachine Purse coming home two lengths in advance of S N Holmans Tangara which in turn was half a length ahead of W A Wollmans Volante Arno from the Seagram Stable the remaining starter was last Mr Pepp was admirably ridden by Claver He waited with him until the far turn where he wenttp Volante with a rush and heading him after straightening out for the stretch jun drew away into a lead which he had no difficulty holding to the end Tangara far out of it early came fast when set down and overhauled the tiring Volante in the final seventy yards yardsTamarind Tamarind whom Mrs A Monast acquired at Blue Bonnets via the claiming box from the Seagram Stable accounted for the Byng Handicap Thompson took the colt right to rthe front in the run through the back stretch and he held Chloris safe the remain ¬ der of the journey The latter tried hard to each him but was not good enough Doc Gaiety raced in third position throughout Kings Court and James F OHara were the other starters Neither figured seriously Judge Francis T Nelson presented Mrs A Monast with the cup that went to the win ¬ ner with the purse following the race raceThe The Seagram Stables Sweepnet was an easy winner of the opening race a dashof fiveeighths for juveniles in which eight started Kennedy sent her right to the front at the rise of the barrier and she was never threatened thereafter winning by four lengths Double Rainbow was an easy second while Indian Talesv after being ifar out of it closed a big gap to be third Egg nog showed a flash of early speed but tired in the stretch
