AURORAS CLOSING DAY Broomster Scores Fourth Straight in Winning Chicago Handicap Carries Heavy Weight Well and andLeads Leads All the Way Three Threefor for Jockey K Noe AURORA ILL June 27 L T Coopers Broomster scored his fourth straight victory when he was home first in the Chicago Han ¬ dicap the feature of the closing days pro ¬ gram at Aurora The winner raced as an en ¬ try with Senor and they were backed with confidence by the public Broomster carried his heavy weight in fine style and raced in front for the entire distance although at one time in the stretch it looked as if Scratch which finished second might beat him Scratch saved ground at the turn for home and drew up on even terms with the leader but the son of Broomstick was game and jockey Noe kept him going and at the end he had an advantage of a little over a half length Scratch was easily second while Dustabout easily beat the others for third place Senor and Strut Miss Lizzie both displayed good early speed but tired in the final eighth A large crowd was on hand for the closing day of the most successful meeting ever given at Exposition Park and the fields were good but should have been better as general manager Trimble had raised the purses for the closing day with the expectation of attracting the best horses at the course But a number of horsemen here have shown a desire to keep their horses in the barn and would not come for ¬ ward and enter The day was an ideal one for the sport and the track although slow on the inside was good in the center and all of the winners earned laurels by racing in the middle of the track trackOPENER OPENER TO R E CLARK CLARKR R E Clark came from behind to take the opening race from Finday after the latter had raced in front to twenty yards from the finish Burger did not make his move with the winner until the stretch head was reached then took him out in the good going and let him down and the geldini 1 mowed down his opponents to win going away Viennese closed a good gap to be third thirdSway Sway odds on choice won the second race but he did not win as impressively as the majority of fans figured he would although he was best He was shut off a couple of times but gamely came again and caught Scarlet Bugler midway of the stretch but only had a little over a half length advantage at the end Scarlet Bugler had no opposition for second while King B was easily third Toddy Toast set the early pace but quit badly The third race resulted in a fine finish with Wine Jug getting the verdict by a half length from Gay Boy II while the latter was the same distance in front of Phyllis Gentry with Miss Meddling a head back of the latter Wine Jug took command at the far turn and opened up a good lead but was tiring at the end while Gay Boy II was running fast at the finish Expressive which raced prominently for threeeighths quit to a walk in the stretch CONSISTENT CUP O TEA AGAIN A good band of sprinters contested the fourth race and L T Coopers consistent filly Cup o Tea was the winner It was practically a three horse race from the start between the winner Trapnet and My Des ¬ tiny but the Cooper filly was slightly in front all the way and was winner by a length with Trapnet nosing out My Destiny The others never figured seriously in the running Peggy O again ran to the out ¬ side fence at the stretch head despite He berts efforts to keep her in inJockey Jockey K Noe rode his third winner of the afternoon when he had Atomin home in front of a small band in the sixth race The win ¬ ner raced in front all the way and beat Battle Shot by three lengths The latter raced closest to the leader all the way and had no opposition for second Tickler raced into third in the stretch Louis A won the last race in a driving finish from Old Broadway just getting up in the closing strides Atossa raced well all the way and was third thirdPat Pat Dunne wellknown horseman and father of judge Frances Dunne was a visitor today
