Inited Verde remains at the Barnes farm, and his owner reports that his book is full for the season. Megan, the blaek mare that raced on the Kentucky tracks a couple of years ago in the colors of Kohn and Thiessen. and was sent to the court of Whiskaway, has a foal by that stallion at Barnesdale. The youngster is a fine-looking chestnut colt. Megan will now be bred to Inited Verde. At Churchill Downs, where Barnes has a stable in training, Recollection is the star of the establishment. This son of Jim Gaff-ney and Memories II., is being trained for bis Kentucky Derby engagement for the local firm oT Kohn and Theisson under the watchful eye of Barnes. Mr. Kohn is a member of the State Racing Commission, and a leading merchant of this city, while Mr. Theissen is engaged in the stock brokerage business. These gentlemen bought Recollection last spring from Jack Keene, with a view of starting him in this years Derby. The colt was a late development, and did not enter upon his racing career until the summer months. He displayed good form as a two-year-old and lias a number of races to his credit. The colt wintered in excellent fashion and is training soundly in the opinion of trainer Barnes. The colt is more advanced in his training than any other aspirant for the rich prize now at the local tracks. The Barnes stable also includes some likely looking two-year-old prospects and among the number is a filly by Inited Verde — Valleieuse that has been named Dolly S. In the opinion of Barnes and several other trainers, this filly is the fastest juvenile at the track, for she has shown more speed than any other youngster quartered at the Downs. She is credited with having worked a quarter in .ZZr.. Barnesdalc. work companion for Recollection, is a three-year-old and never faced the barrier last year owing to lameness. He was fired last summer and is now back in training. He appears to be a colt that may win many races this year. Barnes has at his farm four yearlings, two fillies and two colts which he declares are among the best looking he ever saw. Recently he refused a tempting offer for the fOOT juveniles.
