GUNNY SACKS GROVE PURSE Proves Best in Feature at Beulah Park — Rain Leaves Track in Heavy Condition. COLUMBUS, Ohio. April 2.1. Fred Hays Gunny Sack accounted for the Grove Burse, the fifth and feature race on -the program at Meulah Park this afternoon. Jockey l.imh-erson had the winner off in front and under careful rating retained the lead by a narrow ma.-gin from Six Pence until approaching the turn for home, whero Gunny Sack shook off the later and gradually drew away in the final test. Six Pence was used up in the early running and wa.s doing his best at the end to ret-ain his advantage over Brunetl for the place. Bruneth saved ground all the way and closing up strongly in the run home was wearing down the leaders rapidly. Rein which fell during the night left the. running strip in a heavy condition but with fr.vorable weather late today, the sport was enjoyable in every respect. In the opening race Wine Jug registered a bandy victory over Lafe M. After following the latter closely in the early stages Wine.Iug came to the outside rounding the; stretch turn and drew clear with little effort in the last eighth. Ressie Hope registered a hard earned victory in the s?cond, while Mary G. made it a double for M. H. Jordan when under a hustling ride by J. Connors and suited by the heavy going the winner showed the way to her opponents throughout the running of the third race. Queen Anna Marie registered her second victory of the week in leading throughout the running of the fourth. Coming to the outside of the leaders after rounding the far turn and drawing away in the stretch. Rock Bottom scored for J. S. Kindscher in the sixth. As the horses were en route to face the sarter in the seventh race and after having paraded just beyond the grandstand. Peace-Pal was kicked in the head by Yic-tor M. and had to be withdrawn.
