AURORAS INAUGURAL Attended by Biggest Weekday Crowd in History of Course A Jacobus Wins Opening Handi ¬ cap With George De Mar and Scores Double AURORA 111 May 20 Ideal racing condi ¬ tions prevailed for the opening of the twenty seven days of racing here Thp weather was all that could be desired the track at its best and the largest midweek day crowd which ever visited this course was in attendance The Chicago delegation was a particularly large one The special trains were crowded and many came by motors motorsA A good program was provided for the occasion the seven races all being well filled A field of eight paraded to the post for the Inaugural Handicap Silk Sox Green Blazes Skivesdale and Tick Tock being the absen ¬ tees from the overnight entries Cross Bow and Johnny Jewell divided the post of early favoritism favoritismA A M Jacobus provided the winner of the Aurora Inaugural Handicap fifth and feature race of the initial days racing at Exposition Park this afternoon in George de Mar Cross Bow was second and Johnny Jewell the pacemaker until well into the stretch barely saved third place placeGOOD GOOD PEUlOIUIAXCE PEUlOIUIAXCEIt It was only after a phenomenal perform ¬ ance that the son of Colonel Vennie Little Bit was returned the winner He was away poorly and failed to improve his position until in the last quarter where he moved fast and gamely on the outside through the stretch to win going away Cross Bow was an easy second after racing close up most of the way Scoop raced extremely wide at the first turn which ruined his chances chancesTicker Ticker made it a double for the Jacobus stable when he showed a similar effort in winning the following race He raced past Stevens to a well earned victory after a game effort through the stretch Gentry was hard pressed to save the show money after racing well up for most of the trip tripIt It was only after a keen stretch struggle that Jack Alexander got up from the rear to earn the purse in the fourth race He saved much ground in working his way up on the inside in the stretch and this was a big factor in his ultimate victory Finday the early leader tired in the stretch but saved second place from Rumbling RumblingTo To II C McConnell went the honor of win ¬ ning the opening race of the meeting when Josie Hartman showed the way home to nine other smart twoyearolds The Flying Squir ¬ rel filly had the speed of her opponents at all stages of the race but at the end she Embryo raced prominently throughout and secured the short end of the purse purseLOXG LOXG PRICED WINNER WINNERAnother Another exciting finish resulted at the end of the second rece After racing Lafo M into submission in the early stages His Queen stood a hard drive in the stretch and coura ¬ geously hung on to earn the verdict by a narrow margin from Sister Josella The Ross mare was wearing the winner down near the finish and would have won In a few more strides Miss Nancy finished third after Lafe M retired from the struggle The latter followed the leader closely for the first half mile then quit and lost third money to Miss Nancy NancyAlthough Although outpaced during the early run ¬ ning in the third race Fast Mail had the most in reserve in the stretch and moving up with a rush drew clear of the others in the final drive and won handily Jaune bar outstayed Income for second place after a hard drive Norcrcss and Dust Flower set the early pace and raced one another into exhaustion having nothing left when called on in the pinch
