Coronach Captures Epsom Derby SPECIAL CABLEGRAM CABLEGRAMEPSOM EPSOM England June 2 Lord Woolavingtous Coronach chestnut son of Hurry On and Wet Kiss won the Epsom Derby Englands greatest threeyearold classic here this afternoon W M G Singers Lancegaye beat Lord Derbys Colorado the favorite for second place Swift and Sure finished fourth and Lex one of the choices was last of the nineteen that started The Derby has never been run under more unfavorable conditions A drenching rain began at dawn this morning and continued steadily through ¬ out the day The result was that a comparatively small crowd saw the race and the light was so bad that the running was largely obscured obscuredCoronach Coronach made practically all of the running and crossed the finish an easy winner by five lengths There was a sharp battle for second place but Lancegaye lasted to beat Colorado for that part of the purse by a head Childs who rode the winner said after the race that he never had a moment of anxiety anxietyCoronach Coronach was never in trouble he declared and I never had to call on him seriously Coronach was leading by two lengths at Tattenham corner and he steadily increased his lead from that point to the finish Childs is a veteran jockey He rode his first winner twentysix years ago Colorado was favorite at 2 to 1 Swift and Sure was at 9 to 2 Coronach 11 to 2 Lex 100 to 12 and Lancegaye 40 to 1 1The The race was run in the slowest time of the last thirty years It took Coronach 247 to cover the mile and a half This was seven seconds slower than Mannas time in last years renewal The going was extremely heavy
