THORNDALE PURSE FEATURE Chief Offering of Wednesdays Program at Thorncliffe olilen Ilillows the Victor Large and andEnthusiastic Enthusiastic Crowd Despite the theThreatening Threatening Weatlier TORONTO Out June 2 The Thorncliffe management provided the Thorndalc Purse as an attraction this afternoon It was a dash of a mile and a sixteenth for three yearolds and upward and carried a purse of 51500 A field of six went to the post and the winner was Golden Billows The latter was ridden by Peternel and beat War Man by a length Then followed Malapert an ¬ other length away awayGold Gold Rock was tne one to make the pace Outrunning his rivals to the first turn Gold Rock assumed an easy lead and showed the way to the top of the homestretch where Golden Billows caught and passed him The latter held command of the situation all through the stretch run In the final eighth Gold Rock dropped completely out of the picture and was last but one to finish finishDespite Despite threatening skies an immense gathering turned out at the Thorncliffe course this afternoon It was an enthusiastic crowd and speculation was keen Favorites were bowled over in the first three races but Golden Billows victory made amends in a great measure for the defeat of the other choices choicesKamakani Kamakani proved best of the twoyearolds that went to the post in the opening race Burney rode an intelligent race on this filly Taking back off the pace in the early stages he permitted Colored Gal and Reigh Shot to race each other into defeat and in the stretch run when this pair began to tire he sent Kamakani up with a rush In the final eighth the last named assumed an easy lead and won going away at the end by a couple of lengths from Colored Gal which staggered in a length in front of Aregal It was a Continued ou nineteenth page THORNDALE PURSE FEATURE Continued from first pace tiplit fit for third money between the next four Indemnity bepan slowly md was forced wide the entire distance This filly lost a lot of KTouml entering the home stretch and this put her out of the strucele struceleThe The horses in the Harry Giddincs stable are evidently rounding to form Seven Oaks accounted for the second race for which the Seairrams Gallant Greek was a heavily backed favorite Seven Oaks began none toe pood and Strttton was forced to take the overland route to get to the leaders Knter ing the home stretch he came extremely wido and in the final eighth closed with a rush to win going away at the end by a couple of lengths from Hose Beauty The latter beat Harp of Prophecy by a length for second place Gallant Greek off poorly was never prominent In the early stages 1anketa and Seapcn alternated Jn making the pace hut when the real struggle came both quit and failed to finish inside the money moneyA A stirring finish came with the running of the third race when NewBeauty and Talla dega fought it out all through the home stretch and passed the judges stand so close together1 that it took the official placing to decide the winner Xew Beauty began fast and in the early running carried Dolly Dun bar along at a pace that made the latter quit AVhen she tired TaJladega moved up Entering the home stretch Peternel squeezed through next the inside rail Peternel had no chance to ride a finish and this was fesponsible for the colt being beaten Dolly Dunbar was third a head in front of Martial Wand Cliff off slowly moved up with a rush rounding the far turn but just when jie looked like a dangerous factor he tired and at the end was eased up He was ridden by H H Brown and it was the latters first mount mountFleetwood Fleetwood made a runaway of the fifth race a dash of a mile and an eighth Be ¬ ginning fast next the inside rail he outran the others to the first turn where he drew away and had a length lead entering the back stretch Walls then took him in hand and rated him in front In the stretch run Fleetwood began to tire and Walls was forced to go to a drive at the end to stall off Xorseland to win by a scant length Norse land closed a big gap She was unable to get through on the inside atthe stretch turn and Munden took her out to the middle of the track This cost her a couple of lengthsand victory At the end she was gaining on Fleetwood Betsy Bacon was third and then followed Grass Maid a neck apart Chula Vista was made favorite in the sixth race but whatever chance she had was ruined at the start Starter Cassidy sent hi in away to a moving start but Peternal evidently was unprepared as he took his mount in hand In the run to the turn Chula Vista dropped out of it and followed along with the rear division until straightened out in the home stretch where she closed with a rush and at the end Mas fairly flying The winner was Cooncan which beat Jimmy Brown by a scant length
