Vf-J CRUSADERS 1927 DEBUT TODAY Field for Philadelphia Handicap « ; — . — s HAVRE DE GRACE, Md., April 22.— Crusader, the champion racy horse of last year, will make his racing debut of 1927 here tomorrow in the 0,000 added Philadelphia Handicap. It will be the fifteenth running of this popular spring fixture, which is over the distance of a mile and a sixteenth. The field named to start numbers eighteen and besides Crusader, such stars as Mars, Joy Smoke, Display, Edisto, Gaffsman, Canter, Single Foot, Whiskery and others are prospective rivals of Mr. Riddles great horse. CRUSADER Crusader is the top weight with 128 pounds and L. Fator will come down from Belmont Park to ride him. Mars, with 122 pounds, will be guided by F. Coltiletti, while Joy Smoke with 118 pounds and Display with 117 pounds will have J. Butwell and J. Maiben as their respective pilots. Whiskery, one of H. P. Whitneys Preakness and Derby hopes, will attract much attention. He will be ridden by the spectacular R. Workman, who was the star of the Miami winter meeting. All in all, the field for the Philadelphia Handicap is a sparkler for this early in the year and should provide a wonderful spectacle for the big crowd that is certain to be present.
