BIG CROWD AT AURORA Summerlike Weather Responsible for Best Attendance of Meeting Program of Claiming Races Re ¬ sults in Spirited Contests Gad Scores in Feature AURORA 111 May 21 Warm sum merlike weather prevailed for the racing at Exposition Park this afternoon and what was probably the largest attendance of the meeting was on hand The sport was con ¬ ducted under ideal conditions with the ex ¬ ception of the track which was still heavy additional rain having visited the course Fri ¬ day night At race time and during the afternoon the sun shone brightly and was rapidly drying out what at 9 a m was a very muddy track trackAll All of the races on the program were under claiming conditions the most import ¬ ant of which was the fifth a dash of five and a half furlongs in which a field of eight good sprinters started The purse fell to the stable of Mrs W J Potter when the five yearold mare Gad ridden by jockey R Zucchini got up in the final strides of a strenuous drive after overhauling Take a Chance an eighth out and outstaying the Jatter in the final stages to win by a neck at the finish The winner ruled a well backed favorite and her victory was a popu ¬ lar one Take a Chance displayed much the most early speed and raced into a com ¬ fortable lead entering the stretch stretchIn In the last eighth the son of Theo Cook began to tire and though holding on gamely and striving to maintain his advantage to the end under a good ride by jockey De Prema was unable however to withstand the challenge of Gad and was forced to be content with saving second place R L Bakers Updike raced in third place virtually from the start and held that place safe to the end endFAYOIUTES FAYOIUTES SUCCESSFUL SUCCESSFULFavorites Favorites performed with fair success as did other wellsupported choices throughout the afternoon and the public was success ¬ ful in its quest for winners Despite the allclaiming race card offered good sport resulted and devotees including even the most exacting and critical were provided with satisfactory entertainment entertainmentThe The Jones Stock Farm Stables Prince Tii Tii racing in his best form proved much the best of the small field of platers which started in the sixth race over the one mile course Prince Tii Tii took the measure of Swoop Love Child and four others easily winning in a canter Love Child set the early pace and was in the lead until after making the lower turn Prince Tii Tii fol ¬ lowed the leader closely to that point and racing on the outside of her entering the stretch quickly assumed a long lead and was never headed Swoop easily passed Love Child to take second place Prince Tii Tii by his success scored another win for the favorites as the B A Jones colorbearer ruled an oddson choice here and raced accordingly accordinglyThe The good plater Silent Lillian racing in her best form and showing a liking for the rough going managed to outstay General Setli and Sunny Girl in a strenuous finish which terminated the running of the intro ¬ ductory race Silent Lillian was in the van of her field all the way but was severely pressed at stages to hold her advantage being forced to do her utmost at the end to hold General Seth safe The latter rushed up on the inside in the last seventy yards and finishing strongly outgamed Sunny Girl for second placce and was wearing the winner down fast Jockey Lyke had his second mount since his reinstatement when he had the leg up on Gilmore an outstanding choice and the eventual winner in the field of ten which participated in the second race at threequarters Lyke rode the winner with all his oldtime skill and keen judgment and after saving Gilrnore close up and on the inside refrained from indulging in the early pace then brought his mount through an opening between the leaders entering the stretch and taking the lead came to the finish winner by two lengths going away Jlocking raced to second place while Flora Lc IJreton took third thirdI I Weils threeyearold filly Up and Down finaly found a spot favorable for her and was returned the winner over the three quarters mile of the third race Jcckey Iatriquin was in the saddle and rode the winner having relinquished the early lead to Teenie Third was the portion of the fastfinishing Toiler which came from far back in the stretch to get up at the end Teenie after taking the lead at the half mile post held it well to the last eighth mile but tired and finished unplaced unplacedThe The Lone Star Stable annexed a purse when the tenyearold gelding Make Up showed one of his best efforts and defeated Revolt Handsome Star and six others which started in the fourtii race on the card Make Up raced close to the leaders until the stretch was reached and then finishing with his usual final rush quickly passed the tir ¬ ing Charles Whitney easily and won by a comfortable margin from Revolt Revolt en ¬ gaged Handsome Star in a hardfought duel for second place near the end and took that place by a halflength Charlea Whitney raced in the lead until well into the stretch but tired and finished far back and badly beaten Redskin was the favorite and dis ¬ appointed with a poor showing
