AfterSpectacular Spectacular Contest LATONIA Kyi June 11 Saturdays large attendance at fair Latonia wit ¬ nessed renewals of the historic Clipsetta Stakes at five and onehalf furlongs for twoyearold fillies and the Quickstep Handicap for threeyearolds and upward at threequarters the principal features of a fine program over a dull track The Clipsetta fell to W E Hupps muchfancied Reveries Gal with the Foxcatcher Farms Pink iily in second place and D Lehans Aspinwall Girl third It was the fortyfifth running of this longestablished fixture while the sixteenth decision of the Quickstep Handicap resulted in victory for J N Camdens Noreaster which outlasted J W Parrishs Percentage in a driving finish A halflength separated the two at the finish while E B Mc ¬ Leans Prince of Wales accounted for third a length further back backThe The Clipsetta carried a net winning value of 7620 while Noreasters victorious per ¬ formance enriched his justly proud owner by 6620 6620The The Quickstep Handicap gave promise of proving an easy win for R S Clarks Dinner Dance which raced into a long lead in the first quarter and continued far in advance of his company when completing the stretch turn turnWhile While he led the field Prince of Wales Percentage and Noreaster were in the more forward positions behind him and when he began to tire suddenly approaching the last eighth they went to him quickly In the last eighth Noreaster slipped through between the tiring Prince of Wales and Dinner Dance and making a game finish proceeded to wear eighthIt down Percentage in the last eighth It was a thrilling finish to one of the finest runnings that the race has ever experienced the field of twelve including all of the leading western sprinters The winner was ridden by W Garner GarnerWith With fair weather the order after heavy showers during the previous night climatic conditions were ideal but the track was heavy for the running of the first four races and decidedly slow and seventy yards leading at the end by four lengths with Royal Julian second and Fire On third Canter stumbled slightly after the start but C Allen steadied him quickly and it was no effort for him to make his way to the first turn in front Thereafter Allen rated him under restraint and Royal Julians challenge inside the stretch turn was easily overcome In the first fiveeighths Frank McMahon forced the winners pace but the effects of early usage were manifest in the stretch where he tired badly
