OPENING AT BLUE BONNETS 1 Walter J. Salmons Snowy Scores in Kindergarten Stakes. ♦ Large Crowd Joornoys to Montreal Jorkey Clubs Course to Witness First Program of Meeting. ♦ MONTRKAL, Que., June 15.— The Montreal Jockey Club had a wonderful opening this afternoon when 12,000 people journeyed out to Blue Bonnets to witness the running of the splendid program provided for the occasion. Walter J. Salmon furnished the winner of the afternoons feature race in Snowy, a filly by Tryster — Snowcap, which scored a runaway victory in the Kindergarten Stakes, a dasli of five-eighths for two-year-olds. There were seven starters in the Kindergarten Stakes, John Robert b"ing withdrawn. Snowy was the popular choice and F. Mann had the mount. There was some little delay at the post, caused mainly by Rayo, which refused to line up with the others. Starter Cassidy finally caught them together and the field was dispatched to a good start. Snowy, a rapid beginner, was off in front and Mann permitted her to step right along. Racing head an«l head with Skid, she ran the first quarter in :23*i and the half in :4S. At the head of the home stretch Skid, usually a sow heginner, began to tire and Play Ball then moved up with a bold challenge. Mann had something in reserve, however, and Snowy under slmlit urcing. stalled off Play Ball to Win by a length. Skid was third, beaten a neck for second place, and then followed Brown Thistle. Park Simon was last. The net value of the race to the winner was |l,4Sll Racing conditions were ideal and keen sport was in order. BLADE BY A HEAD. A band of twelve maidens went to the post In the opening race and the Mrs. J. Simpson Dean stable furnished the winner in Blade, which beat San de Oro by a head in a desperate stretch drive. Blade was ridden by IV. Cartas and was badly outrun in the early stages. Entering the homestretch he came past the leaders and, wearing down the tiring pacemakers, got up in the final strides. Sir Stanley, carrying the colors of Senator D. Raymond, threatened to make a runaway race of it when he dashed to the front soon after the start and drew away into a commanding lead. He had enough of it after going five-eighths and, when the real test eame. tired badly and finished fifth. The Mount Royal Stable scored its first victory of the season when Calm, a three-year-old filly, by St. James, captured the second race. Calm was a well played favorite and was ridden by R. Townrow. From rather a slow beginning. Calm was rated back of the pacemakers to the head of the stretch, where she found an opening next to the inside rail. Townrow was quick to take advantage of it and. sending Calm through, she passed the pacemakers to take the lead in the stretch and drew away to win by a length and a half. Mad Sketch, under a hard drive, wore down the tiring Ann Curtis to get up in the last few strides to beat the latter out by a head. Another half length back came Pygmalion. Another favorite finished In front when the Seagram Stables Kitling beat Master Bobbie by a length and a half in the third race. Kitling was well backed. In the early stages the Seagram racer dropped out of it and in the run down the back stretch her Chances looked hopeless. Not until on the far turn did she begin to improve her position. Passing the three-eighths post Kitling Went to the outside and at the head of the Streteh joined Master Bobbie. In the final eighth Zateslo shook Kilting up a bit and she began drawing away. Brevet was a tiring third, beaten off two lengths. BKII.I.IANT ASSEMBLAGE.
