STARS AND STRIPES HANDICAP AT ARLINGTON * . — «§ The appropriately named Stars and Stripes Handicap, which is to have its inaugural running at Arlington Park. July 4. will be the first of the midsummer seasons important stake events at that course for the horses that are partial to long distance racing. With an added money value of 5,000, it ranks the third most valuable stake event of the meeting, being surpassed only by the American Classic and the Arlington Handicap, with an endowment of 0,000 and 0,000 respectively. The Stars and Stripes is a gallop of one mile and an eighth, for three-year-olds and over, and judging by the large list of high class eligibles it has attracted, the race should develop into a contest well worth while. Conspicuous in the field that will parade to the post will be a number of the performers of eastern ownership who will be making their western debuts in this race. The lineup will also include a majority of the crack three-year-olds, among the number being Blue Larkspur, which will probably be sent in the Stars and Stripes as a preliminary to his engagement in the Classic, nine days later on ; Battleship Gray, from the Glen Riddle Farm Stable, and which will also be a starter in the Classic ; Windy City, Mowlee, Leucite, Minotaur, African and Soul of Honor. Among the older horses that will give brilliance to the contest will be Misstep, Canaan, Jock, Toro, Sortie, Sir Harry, Martie Flynn, Sun Beau, Easter Stockings, Begorra, Algernon, Victorian, Whiskery and Diavolo. *—
