DOUBLE FOR IRWIN COLORS Morsun and Miss Lester Triumph at Exposition Park Son of 3Iorvirh Wins Feature Race and His HisThird Third Straight Victory Track Fast AURORA 111 May 8 Morsnn game son of Morvich which races for C B Irwin made it a double for the Wyoming turfman and jockey Willie Moran when he sqored over Little Gyp in a driving finish in the fifth race the feature of todays program at Exposition Park It was Morsuns third straight victory at the meeting and as in his other triumphs he led most of the way He scored by a narrow margin while Taddy ¬ wawa was third thirdIt It was a fractious band of animals that entered the stall gates and so anxious were they to be on their way that several at ¬ tempted to obtain a flying start As the result of their fractious actions particularly on the part of Taddywava and Nora D the start was delayed for seventeen minutes and Taddywawa got away slowly slowlyMorsun Morsun beginning from an inner post po ¬ sition raced to the front when the field had gone a short distance and after a quar ¬ ter opened up a threelengths lead Little Gyp was second and Taddywawa had raced into third place Morsun held a twolengths advantage at midstretch but in the final drive his heavy impost of 115 pounds be ¬ gan to tell and he began to shorten his stride Little Gyp was racing the fastest as the horses approached the wire but Morsun under a capable ride managed to stick it out Taddywawa was used up racing into contention and did not threaten the first pair pairThe The track had dried out rapidly over night and the horses raced over the fastest track of the meeting Morsun ran the six furlongs in 113 while Baked Apple ran one mile and seventy yards in 145 in the fourth race The weather could not have been improved upon and a goodsized week ¬ day crowd witnessed the racing Continued on eighteenth page DOUBLE FOR IRWIN COLORS Continued from first page Bunyora finally graduated from the ranks of the maidens when he won the initial race with ease Lang and Buntline were favored but both finished outside the money Radio Service getting second place and the extreme outsider Bunnie East being third A field of ten went and Bunyora staged his usual last minute rush to pass the leaders in the stretch and win going away Buntline fell lame soon after the start while Lang was off slowly and though closing much ground did not threaten It was the first success in some time for the stable of T S Ownbey OwnbeyUliss Uliss Lester which races for Charlie Irwin showed both speed and gameness in winning the second race Miss Lester went to the front when the barrier was released and though challenged by Knockabout in the stretch held on gamely to win by a neck Knockabout was always in second place while Paddy Flaherty got up to be third in the final strides Eleven went to the post and Miss Lester was well backed backedCloimar Cloimar showing much improvement over her last race was an easy winner in the third She was ridden by J Leyland and beginning from the inside position saved ground all the way and was four lengths in advance of Allegretto as the horses raced to the finish Allegretto was second best and R K Girl was third Type which had many supporters raced well for a quarter but tired after being carried wide by R 1C Girl on the theStockeyUrCoopers StockeyUrCoopers vigorous riding was largely responsible for Baked Apples victory in the fourth race This race attracted the smallest field of the afternoon Only four horses went to the post but it was an inter ¬ esting contest and the finish was one of the most thrilling of the meeting Big Chief set the pace and when he drew away into a two length lead in the stretch it appeared as if he would win easily but Baked Apple with Cooper riding hard showed a sudden burst of speed in the last seventy yards and before Frye on Big Chief realized his danger the ftll had caught him and won by a noset It is probable that Big Chief would have won had not his rider been so sure of victory He was going easily near the finish and al ¬ though Frye drew his whip when Baked Apple loomed up alongside it was too late and he was beaten at the finish Tanist fin ¬ ished third while Cockrill ran a poor race and was last all the way wayTangram Tangram staged a stretch rush to win the sixth race Ridden by jockey Boucher she was outrun early but when straightened out for the long stretch drive came fast and got to the front in the last sixteenth to win by five lengths Ramona S raced close up throughout and was good enough to be sec ¬ ond while Sturdy Stella took third place i Kentucky Babe tired badljy a
