GOOD CARD FOR OPENING Leaside Purse Promises Keen Contest at Thorncliffe Gerard Will Make First Start in Colors of of3Tew 3Tew Owners in 1500 Feature of ofFirst First Day at Hill Top Track TORONTO Ont May 20 Thorncliffe comes into its own Tuesday when the racing scene will shift from the Woodbine to the beautiful hill top course of the Thorncliffe Park Racing and Breeders Association There are a great number of horses quartered on the grounds ready to participate in the sport Some 250 fehipped direct to Thorncliffe from the various racing points across the border They have been on the grounds for a week or ten days past awaiting the opening openingThe The entries in the various events on tomor ¬ rows program give rare promise of provid ¬ ing excellent contests The superb condition of the track and the promising weather fore ¬ cast unite to attract recordbreaking attend ¬ ance figures The conditions of two races the third and seventh have been found suf ¬ ficiently attractive to bring together limit fields while the fourth and feature event the Leaside Purse has eleven named namedThe The Leaside is to be fought out over a seven furlongs route for a purse of 1500 Among the entrants are Martis French Lass and Sunvir all of which turned in winning efforts at the Woodbine and come to the Leaside in prime condition In addition Panuco which is in the care of trainer Tom McCreery will be given opportunity to re ¬ deem himself for the defeats that he suffered at the east end course W L Brodie has named his fast Wellet and this racer needs little introduction to local race fans fansThe The Palmwood Stable has named Gerard a recent acquisition from G D Widener and it is to be his maiden effort in the colors of his new owners ownersIn In addition to the feature there are two races for twoyearolds and while the fields are not so bulky this can be looked upon as an asset as the juveniles are some times un ¬ ruly and the smaller fields in these events are conductive to better racing The open ¬ ing is a dash of four and a half furlongs for maiden twoyearolds foaled in Canada and the contestants number eight including two from the popular Seagram Stable Digitalis and Lance Pennant the latter a firsttime starter
