= 8 SANFORD C. LYNE ON HAND Father of Noted Rider Recalls His First Visit When Halma Won in 1895. LOUISVILLE, Ky., May 15.— Sanford C. Lyne, now young at four score, and the master of Brannon Station Farm, motored down from his Jessamine County home for his annual Derby visit. "Pop," as he is known to his army of friends, is hale and hearty at what he calls "the ripe young age," and states that he intends to witness many, many more Derbys. Mr. Lyne is the father of Lucien Lyne, considered in his days in the saddle in this country, which was the day of Tod Sloan, Walter Miller, Grover Cleveland Fuller, Herman Radtke, Tommy Burns, Dave Nicol, Willie Shaw, Hille Brandt, Frankie ONeill, George Odom and others, one of the leading American jockeys. Lucien has spent his last twenty years in Europe, where he is still riding. "There are many familiar faces missing since I made my first journey here when Byron McClelland saddled Halma for the Derby in 1895. That was Hanovers greatest son, and it seems only yesterday that "Boots" Durnell was in the paddock with Elwood when he triumphed in 1904. That was the year Lucien was at his best."
