CHURCHILL DOWNS NOTES $ ■ • LOUISVILLE, Ky., May 15. Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Leiter and their son Thomas will have among their guests at the Derby Eugene Pike of Chicago and J. A. Newland of Los Angeles. The Madden Brothers will send The Mongol to Bainbridge Park for the Derby at that course on May 23. Cousin Jo, Charles Nuckols winner of the Kentucky Oaks, is another Kentucky candidate for the race, but definite announcement as to future plans for the daughter of Stimulus have not been announced. J. J. Flanigan is shipping his stable to Bainbridge Park next Tuesday night. Apprentice Charles Turner, under contract to Tommy Taylor, became ill after filling his engagements Thursday afternoon, and was allowed to cancel his mounts for Friday. Jockey R. Fisher severed his connection with the George Collins establishment and will ride freelance during the remainder of the meeting. Larry Bogenschutz was appointed entry clerk at Washington Park, and with William P. Shelly, who -will serve as racing secretary and placing judge, will depart for the Home-wood course Thursday night. In the absence of racing secretary Shelly and Bogenschutz, Freddie Burton will be in charge of the Downs office for the final two days of the meeting. The Derby Day card will open at 1:45 p. m., central standard time, when the field for the first race will be called to the post and the Derby bugle will be heard at about five oclock, central standard time. «
