BUD CHARLTON, a factor from the start, dropped back near the far turn, but closed well. DONNA DEAR, away slowly, saved much ground in the last half mile and overtook HARASS in the final strides. The latter, away fast, showed speed, but tired badly in the stretch. DIM RAY quit. PLAY BIRD, away in a tangle, was far back when her rider left the saddle, but escaped falling when his right foot remained in the iron and he succeeded in retaining his hold on the reins. HAL RILEY raced wide most of the way, but closed a gap in the last half mile, went around the leaders in rapid order after entering the stretch and, continuing resolutely, drew away to win easily. OLD BILL, hard urged all the way, held on resolutely. BERNICE VAN showed speed, but tired. HALF DAY saved much ground. SQUEEZE PLAY, forced to lose ground, began fast. BUNYORA was outrun.
