WAVE TOP, away in the first flight and, following the pacemaker closely,, took command near the stretch turn and, kept under pressure, withstood the closing challenge of CHATTAHOOCHEE. The latter improved her position on the outside under punishment and was gaining at the end. WEATHERPROOF, slow to get going, moved up resolutely in the final three-eighths. BOB BLACKBURN could not keep up early. WILD CRESS showed a good performance. BOUNDER forced a fast pace. UNLUCKY tired after showing early speed. DONNY JOHNNY responded gamely to urging in the stretch and, coming through between the leaders, was up to win in the closing sixteenth. OUT BOUND raced ELLICE into defeat in the first half mile, but could not withstand the challenge of the winner. ELLICE began fast, saved ground while setting a fast early pace, but was done after five-eighths. JOHN MILL could not get up. MONTANARO lacked early speed. TRANSLUCENT was outrun. FLAG BEARER sprinted into a long early lead, but bolted to the outside on the stretch turn, carrying JAZ AGE out with him, then held on gamely. STREET SINGER, outrun early, worked his way up on the outside and finished fast. FORTUNATE YOUTH, slow to get going, finished with a belated rush. CHATFORD, an early factor, tired. The latter improved his position on the outside until reaching the stretch, where he swerved to the inside, but was racing well at the end. PLAYBILL entered contention on the final turn and outlasted CRYSTAL DOMINO. The latter, rated in front, saved ground, but tired and pulled up very lame. ERA, slow to start, closed a big gap. JUDGE CAVERLY, sent into a forward position, was taken to the outside when moving to the leaders and, closing full of run, wore PRINCE BULBO down in the last few strides. PRINCE BULBO, racing close to MIKE CAREY, displaced the latter when entering the stretch and was energetically handled, but faltered right at the end. CONFIDENTIAL, always close up, finished with good courage in the final drive. WEST VIRGINIA was never a factor and was placed fourth through error; he finished next to last. LAFTAR, well up all the way, held on with good courage, finished fourth in the running, but was not given that position. MIKE CAREY was used up setting the pace and quit.
