East LOUISVILLE Ky April 30 Headed by Cavalcade favorite for the race one of the strongest eastern contingents ever sent out for the Kentucky Derby arrived at Churchill Downs scene of the race shortly after noon today The group arriving in three cars also included Time Clock Singing Wood Agrarian and Discovery which like Cavalcade loaded at Havre de Grace and Speedmore which came from Jamaica The Brookmeade Stable pair Cavalcade and Time Clock Mrs J Hay Whitneys Singing Wood and Agrarian which is owned by Mrs Frank J Heller shared a car with Discovery and a pony companion in the other of the two from Maryland Speedmore hope of J H Louchheim was also accompanied by a pony on a fast overnight trip from JTew York YorkSo So far as their attendants could determine all of the crack threeyearolds shipped in good fashion Upon unloading Cavalcade was quite washy the result of nervous ¬ ness but his condition was described as natural by J J Connors assistant to Bob Smith trainer in chief of the Brookmeade Stable Connors lost little time unloading the Derby favorite and his stablemate Time Clock winner of the Florida Derby and soon after being put away at the Downs Cavalcade the quarter HI 26 half mile in 53 threequarters in 119 and the mile in 146 while Bender First covered the quarter in 25 50 116 and 143 Sgt Byrne probably is one of the poorest workers in the coun ¬ try and trainer Ritchie was pleased with what he did without being paced and sub ¬ jected to severe pressure pressureChas Chas Slate who is in charge of Discovery expects trainer Stotler tomorrow Bob Smith is due Wednesday and Jim Healy trainer of Singing Wood is looked for early tomorrow George Strate who developed and trains Agrarian personally looked after the colt on the trip West WestThose for the race leaving Jamaica on Wednesday The son of Spion Kop will be the last of the candidates to reach the battle grounds where on Saturday a field of fif ¬ teen is expected to vie for Derby honors before the largest crowd since 1930 1930Yesterday Yesterday saw Riskulus and War Pledge the latter owned by Bianchi Scott and a definite starter in long gallops under much the same fine conditions as prevailed this morning Trainer E L Fitzgerald put the Church threeyearold through a mile and an an eighth spin while War Pledge stepped the Derby distance Riskulus was timed in 156 and the BianchiScott threeyear in 210
