Pimlico Nursery one of the annual fixtures of the spring meeting here was featured by the Maryland Jockey Club this afternoon It brought a field of thirteen of the best two yearolds in training 3iere to the post and furnished a rousing contest in which C V Whitneys Surveyor a chestnut colt by John P Grier Transit was the winner when he finished a nose in front of Katherine E Hitts Sunned William Zieglers Gold Buckle was third beaten a length and a half for second place and another head away came the Greentree Stables Maddening MaddeningThe The conditions of the Pimlico Nursery called for a dash of four and a half fur ¬ longs and the club added a purse of 2500 There was a bit of delay at the post and when Milton finally got them aligned they were off to a good start Workman alert at the gate got Surveyor away in second place but was soon out in front running head and head with Sunned and Gold Buckle Making the turn into the home stretch Surveyor hugged the rail and had a length advantage over Gold Buckle at the furlong post The latter was on the outside outsideWORKMANS WORKMANS ROUSING FINISH FINISHIn In the last sixteenth Surveyor began to tire and Workman was forced to go to work on him The Whitney jockey put up a rous ¬ ing finish and he just did succeed in get ¬ ting Surveyor to last long enough Sunned was gradually gaining on him and in an ¬ other stride past the winning mark he had his head in front Gold Buckle began well and was clear of interference throughout He had no excuses to offer Candy Prince and Candimate both of which had shown keen speed in their lengths back of the winner was J P Jones Depart which got up in the final strides to beat John Bosley Jrs Muskogee by a nose for second place Free Wheeler was fourth followed by Silverskin The lat ¬ ter an oddson favorite made a careless ef ¬ fort at the first jump where he all but went down He was taken up and was never really dangerous thereafter Muskogee one that looks in particularly good shape this spring set the pace paceWHITNEY WHITNEY DAY AT PIMLICO PIMLICOToday Today was surely a Whitney day at Pim ¬ lico Not to be outdone by the C V Whit ¬ ney stable which sent a pair ofwinners to the post in Motto and Surveyor Mrs John Hay Whitney came back after the Quick March victory in the steeplechase to furnish the winner of the Worthington Purse in Crowning Glory This good looking gelding by Black Tpney came from behind to wear down the tiring pacemaker Bright Haven and in a driving finish got up in the last fifty yards to win going away by threequar ¬ ters of a length Happy Go was third and Polydorus fourth fourthBright Bright Haven showing speed from the start set all the pace and it was not until the final strides that he was headed Crown ¬ ing Glory which followed the leader from the start raced under restraint until the final furlong and when Porter called on him responded gamely Happy Go a bit out classed could never get to the leaders leadersMotto Motto racing for C V Whitney made a show of her opposition in the opener when she was an easy winner three lengths in front of Gary T Graysons Scotch Queen Miss H M McGonigles Carmanchita fin ¬ ished third beaten by five lengths for sec ¬ ond place and then came E R Bradleys Born Happy another length away Twelve started and Motto was always favorite favoriteSun Sun Spear came back after his disappoint ¬ ing effort the other day at Havre de Grace to score in runaway fashion when he took a field of platers into camp in the second race This was a dash of one mile and sev ¬ enty yards under claiming conditions R Merritt a lad who is riding in very good form just now had the mount Her Gold was second Sun Monk from the Willis Sharpe Kilmer stable finished third beaten a length for second place It was a two horse race all the way Sun Spear and Her Gold journeyAske racing onetwo the entire journey Aske which was beaten off in his race at Havre de Grace a few days ago came back with a good performance at Pimlico this afternoon when he scored in runaway fash ¬ ion in the fifth race This was a dash of a mile and seventy yards There was a change in riders from F Weir to R Workman and a quiet tip was circulated about the horse
