CHASTITY A BIG SURPRISE Pays 5805 for 2 in Winning WinningHampton Hampton Claiming Plate Main MainAttraction Attraction at Woodbine TORONTO Ont May 21 After the im ¬ mense opening day crowd at Woodbine it was surprising to see another remarkably large throng that was on hand for todays sport at the Ontario Jockey Club course Weather conditions were much improved over that of Saturday but a chill wind blew off Lake Ontario that made it uncomfortable for those that left top coats at home There was no outstanding attraction listed for de ¬ cision cisionThe The premier position on the card was the Hampton Claiming Plate a test over the one mile and seventy yards Distance framed ex clusively for threeyearolds and the race provided the biggest upset of the afternoon when the Royal Stables Chastity came from the rear of the pace to take down the lions share of the spoils by a half length over S W Labrots Steelhead with Sun Monk racing for W S Kilmer third thirdChastity Chastity which was acquired via the claiming route in Florida from G M Odom was making her initial start since the Trop ¬ ical Park meeting Chips in view of her splendid efforts in Maryland was installed the choice but after flattering her backers by showing the way until the stretch was reached quit badly and landed in fifth place placeEddie Eddie Barnes had the mount on Chastity and the Chance Play filly was permitted to settle fully into her stride before being sent up for her best Chips had outrun her rivals from the start and was well clear straight ¬ ening out on the back stretch Steelhead was heading the others while Chastity was head ¬ ing DunspriteThe but one of the field Dunsprite The Royal Stable filly did not begin to improve her position until after passing the halfmile ground Chips was plainly doing her utmost as the stretch was reached and Steelhead placed under punishment had little commandBarnes trouble in wresting the command Barnes had come to the outside for the final drive and closing on the leaders at every stride drew even with the Labrot colorbearer a few yards out and into a lead of a half length by the time the finish was reached Steelhead while unable to meet the challenge of the winner was well clear of Sun Monk one that had made up some ground in the final quartermile
