TODY CON began quickly, moved clear when leaving the back stretch, was placed to severe pressure after reaching the home stretch and barely lasted to stall off FLIGHT OF GOLD. The latter, in tight quarters in the eaily running, secured racing room on the inside and finished full of run when clear. QUEEN HELEN raced strongly from the beginning, was hard ridden and held on well. BULL FIGHTER came through on the inside entering the Rome stretch, but hung after entering contention. BEST BUTTER was hurried into a contending position, but failed to rally in the final drive. BAYDROP broke slowly. POOP DECK could not gain a" contending position. BILLIE WISE lacked speed. CHERRY STONE, quick to begin and in close pursuit of PROSY, displayed excellent courage when the Final drive came and, closing gamely, was up in the concluding strides. HIATUS raced in the thick of contention from the beginning, drew abreast of the leaders in the closing eighth and fought it out determinedly. PROSY raced in his best form, displayed good speed while setting the pace and held on resolutely approaching the finish. SEABISCUIT worked his way up on the outside, responded to vigorous pressure and was going fastest of all at the end.. SOMEONE ELSE, slow to get into his stride, closed fast after making a wide turn into the home stretch. EVENING HOUR broke slowly. The others could not enter contention. VENETIAN, squeezed back coming out of the chute and a trailer in the early running, circled his field when entering the home stretch, closed with a bold rush and wore down POSTSCRIPT inside the "final sixteenth. The latter, on the outside and closer up in the early running than usual, took command midway of the- turn, met persistent efforts from FREDRICK, but could not resist the winner. BELIEVER improved his position steadily, saved ground entering the home stretch and finished stoutly. FREDRICK raced strongly for the first five-eighths, but tired from his early efforts. DESERT CALL was used up going to the front and began tiring approaching the home stretch. DALMATIA tired after a half mile. CANDESCENT was in tisht quarters and could not engage the leaders. WENT TO POST 4:16. AT POST 3 minutes. Start-good and slow. Won driving; second and third the same. ROSEMONT, nicely handled and kept close up while on the outside of the pacemaker, drew abreast of NAUTCH when midway of the home stretch arid closed gamely, getting up in the last sixteenth after being forced out. NAUTCH, hustled into the lead and. saving ground until challenged, responded willingly and held on well after bearing out nearing the finish. BACHELOR DINNER secured racing room on the inside to reach a forward position, saved ground and continued with good courage. HOWS CHANCES closed with a rush after trailing his field early. SONG was unable to improve her position. BE MINE could not enter contention. GALON BOY had keen speed for five-eighths. GUM was held safe. MASTER LAD followed along under slight restraint until leaving the back stretch, engaged the leaders to take a brief lead, but could not withstand the winner. JACK CHEVIGNY raced strongly from the beginning, wore down RIVER ROSE and HOGANS FOX, but could not stave off the first two. RIVER ROSE tired, after three-quarters. HOGANS FOX quit. GENERAL LEJEUNE raced strongly from the beginning and held on stoutly under punishment; B.RASS MONKEY trailed far back and could not threaten. MY BOSS could not reach the headers. FLUFFY LEE tired.
