Final Day of Successful Meeting AURORA 111 May 21 One of the outstanding items of interest in connection with the field for the 12000 added Illinois Derby to be run tomorrow and which attracted thirteen overnight entries is the rivalry shown by Chicago owners In their quest for the first rich prize of the Illinois season In the field are three entries of two horses each all representing Chicago owners Two are women who were in ¬ cluded in the first ten leading owners of America last year namely Mrs Ethel V Mars 1936 leader and Mrs Emil Denemark Nash Bros owners of the Shandon Farm stable are the other Chicago owners with an entry The eligibles compose a field comparable to the best that Has gone to the post in past Illinois Derbys won by many noted horses The probable field May 21 One of the most interesting renewals in the comparatively short but eventful history of the Illinois Derby is slated for tomorrow at the Fox Valley track An important item in connection with the race is that the track will be fast providing the weather remains the same as at the time this is written Thirteen were named overnight six of the thirteen or almost half of the field representing the entries of three Chicago owners two of them women who were among the ten leading moneywinning owners in the country last year Such stars of their division as Case Ace Military Heelfly Dellor Grey Count Sunset Trail II and Burning Star are among the eligibles and are on a par with barring War Admiral and Pompoon PompoonLast Last years renewal of the Illinois Derby was a memorable contest and it provided incidents that will be re ¬ ferred to as long as turf history is isreviewed reviewed notably the beginning of the iron horse feat of Rushaway in winning the race on Friday afternoon and boarding an express car immediately afterward for Latonia where he captured the Latonia Derby the following afternoon afternoonTURF TURF LUMINARIES LUMINARIESIn In addition last years race saw the dis morning for final workouts and with a fast track prevailing Dellor Play Pal and Heelfly were given their final preparations for the race while Burning Star and Musca ¬ tine which came over from Washington Park Thursday afternoon remained in the barn barnRobert Robert McGarvey trainer of the preten ¬ tious Milky Way Farm stable of Mrs Ethel V Mars reported that Case Ace and Mili ¬ tary the two representatives of the Chicago sportswoman will be transferred from the Homewood course by van Saturday morning and E E Fogelsons Grey Count and Mrs Emil Denemarks Prairie Dog and Muscatine will be shipped the same way wayTrainer Trainer J M Goode had Dellor on the track this morning for a blowout of three furlongs and the son of Rolled Stockings went the first quarter in 24 and breezed out the final eighth in 36 which was one of the best works recorded during the train ¬ ing period F J Grands Play Pal breezed a half mile in his final preparation for the race in 52 which was not altogether im ¬ pressive and this one is regarded as a non starter starterHEELFLY HEELFLY READY READYHeelfly Heelfly the Three Ds Stock Farms standard bearer had a gallop of five fur ¬ longs this morning which he completed in 101 in handy fashion Heelfly ran the first quarter of his work in 24 the half mile in 48 and the five panels in 101 which was considerably better than any time registered for the same distance during the morning hours
