May 29 The Woolford Farms Silvestra and Howard Wells Equif ox were the winners of the cofeatures on the Lincoln Fields card today The former ac ¬ counted for the sevenfurlong Ocean Drive Purse which was run as the fifth race and the latter was up to snatch victory from Mrs Emil Denemarks War Minstrel in the last strides of the one mile event known as the Blue Island which occupied the sixth spot on the card cardBoth Both races were closely contested but it was the Blue Island Purse which brought the crowd to its feet as War Minstrel and Equifox fought it out head and head for the final halfmile of this event Both riders put their mounts under a hard drive down the long stretch of this course but it was Equifox who managed to get up to earn the neck advantage he had as they reached the final marker in 138 138The The bay son of Equipoise Catherine Fox was accounting for his second victory at the meeting having won another mile event here on May 21 and was making his third start of the year Being well supported Eauifox paid 760 in the mutuels mutuelsShady Shady Brook Farms Timeful finished third six lengths in the wake of the favored War Minstrel who had a slight margin all the way until the winner got up to take the verdict Saint Andrews was an early con ¬ tender but dropped back through the stretch to finish fourth GRAY DAUGHTER OF INSCO INSCOIn In accounting for the Ocean Drive Purse a sevenfurlong allowance race for three yearolds Silvestra was earning her second purse of the year The good looking gray daughter of Insco who finished second to Valdina Myth in the Kentucky Oaks in her last outing after setting the pace went to the post the favirite today and paid 6 to those who backed her as she con ¬ quered the Shady Brook Farms Agricole Ken McCombs was aboard the Woolford Farms representative and he had her always with the pace as established by Mrs Jake Lowensteins De Kalb When that one quit on the final turn for home Silvestra took over but McCombs had to go to a drive with her to withstand the challenge made by Agricole and Happy Pilot through the front lane and stye completed the distance In 125 125Behind Behind the winner Agricole finished a length and a half in advance of the Wells gelding From the half mile pole home Happy Pilot showeda terrific burst of speed in spite of the fact that at one time he was in tight quarters quartersWilbur Wilbur Borton young apprentice from Lafayette Ind was the riding star of the day Under contract to Roscoe Goose the man who developed Charley Kurtsinger Gilbert Elston and Eugene James Borton won the second race on his employers Quick Tool and came right back to win the third on John L Sullivans Cherriko CherrikoThe The first race a sixfurlong test for fillies and mares of the 1500 claiming bracket was won by King Ranchs Pajas The Texas bred daughter of Chicaro was winning her third victory of the year as she ran the distance in 113 Jockey Marinelli rated the King Ranch filly along behind the pace set by Mrs Emil Denemarks Limitation called upon her with his whip going to the eighth pole and Pajas had disposed of the favored daughter of Hard Tack by the time the sixteenth pole vas reached Marinelli continued to ride out his mount to her score and she paid 780 in the mutuels After leading from the gate Limitation wound up third threequarters of a length away from the Lexbrook Stables Chin Music MusicMaking Making the first start of her career Ros ¬ coe Gooses Quick Tool graduated from the band of twoyearolds which made up the field of the second race The bay daughter of Brevity Diamond was under a drive to spin off the five furlongs in 101 and was just able to get up to win by a nose ad ¬ vantage over J R Nevilles Deneb A half length farther back J C Bradys Old Rose led E Slow and J Gansacs Minrab That gray son of Sherab broke out of the gate first but All Aglow took over to set the early pace until the stretch was reached At that point Deneb got to the front but could not stand off the drive of the winner winnerDOUBLE DOUBLE FOR BORTON BORTONWilbur Wilbur Borton who had won the second race with Quick Tool made it two in a row when he booted home John L Sullivans Cherriko in the third race a sixfurlong dash for fillies and mares Rating the daughter of Balko close up as first Yellow Mask arid then Flying Jane displayed the speed of the party Borton sent his mount into the lead rounding the final turn into the stretch Between that point and the final marker he was able to build up the onelength margin that filly had as he crossed the final marker iii advance of Mid kiff Wells Flying Jane Cherriko re ¬ ceived fair backing as she accomplished her third victory of the year and paid 1080 The Balko filly was timed in 114 114S S I Crews O Play earned brackets for the first time this year at the end of the six furlongs of the fourth a claiming affair fashioned for older horses of the 1500 to 2OQO bracket which was known as the Wacker Drive Purse Steve Brooks sent the winning daughter of Okapi up to take over the lead from Jayfcee around the bend for home under pressure but he drew away from his opposition so rapidly that when he flashed by the final marker in the good time of 112 he was moving along in easy fashion two and onehalf lengths in advance pf the Lexbrook Stable gelding
