WHIRLAWAY WILL NOT SPORT SILKS IN STARS AND STRIPES STRIPESCrack Crack Colt to Get Short Rest Before Preparing for Classic ClassicARLINGTON ARLINGTON HEIGHTS 111 June 26 Although the champion Whirlaway is pass ¬ ing up his engagement in the Stars and Stripes Handicap the whimsical ace and record breaker of Warren Wrights Calumet Farm will start in at least one ani possibly two races prior to the Classic Stakes his trainer and developer Ben A Jones stated here this morning While he has taken his campaigning in grand fashion said Jones our next objec ¬ tive is the Classic and it is only proper that Whirlaway should receive a little vacation before going into serious training for that race As the Classic is more than four weeks off this is a splendid opportunity to give the colt a short layoff Jones further stated that Mr Wright has decided not to send the colt to California and that following the Classic Whirlaway is to return to New York for racing at Sara ¬ toga The champion will fill another im ¬ portant engagement before Chicago race fans when he return here for the American Derby at Washington Park on August 23 and his important autumn appearances will be confined to eastern tracks tracksIf If and where Whirlaway races during the coming winter has not been decided by Mr Wright according to trainer Jones
