Soys Racing Necessary For Morale of People PeopleELMONT ELMONT L L N Y May 18 Major General Walter B Smith of the United States Army and Chief of Staff of the Allied Air Forces in North Africa was present at the races at Belmont Park on the week ¬ end and said that he thoroughly be ¬ lieves that racing and baseball should be continued on the home front He believes that the maintenance of both sports is necessary for the morale of the people peopleGeneral General Smith further declared that after almost a year in Africa his visit at Belmont made for the most completely relaxing and most enjoyable day he had spent in nine months monthsGeneral General Smith is the chief execu ¬ tive officer on the staff of General Ike Elsenhower He was accompanied te the track by Flight Commander Haddleston and Colonel Barry both ef the R A F and also of General Eisenhowers staff
