Cape Cod Earns First Purse of 1943 Season SeasonJakes Jakes Measure of Samhar in MidWeek Offering at Suffolk SuffolkBOSTON BOSTON Mass May 19 Cape Cod from the string of G C Greer Son flashed a return to his best form to capture the Jamaica Handicap feature offering on the midweek program at Suffolk Downs Although only five paraded in this sixfur ¬ long feature it was a stirring finish that resulted with four of the company coming to the finish with little more than a length separating them The Bostonian fiveyear old registered by a half length over C S Bromleys Samhar coupled with Itabo from the J H Miles string This entry was the oddson choice Mrs I B Perrys Time OWar after making the pace for the greater part of the way landed third be ¬ fore Itabo Royal Flush completed the field Itabo led out of the stalls but before the opening sixteenth mile had been tra ¬ versed Time OWar had been hustled to the front and soon opened up a daylight lead over his closest rival Royal Flush under urging moved up to chase closest after the leader while Cape Cod led only the trailing Samhar Itabo continued to drop back and rounding the far turn was back in last place Time OWar continued to race out in front and before reaching the turn for home was enjoying an advantage of better than two lengths Cape Cod had moved up and was racing abreast of Royal Flush FlushContinued Continued on Page Seventeen Cape Cod Earns First Purse of 1943 Season SeasonTakes Takes Measure of Samhar in MidWeek Offering at Suffolk SuffolkContinued Continued from Paae One OneSamhar Samhar was moving up on the inside but was only showing in front of his stable companion companionA A furlong from home it was still Time O War out in front although his lead now had been cut to less than a length Cape Cod raced at his saddles girth while Samar was gaining slowly as he skimmed along the inner rail It was just a tossup during the closing sixteenth mile but the son of Bostonian proved to have a bit more in re ¬ serve to come out into a short lead Samhar battled along gamely on the Inside man ¬ aged to wear down the pace setter and was a gamely closing second secondCape Cape Cod was one of the lesser regarded members of the field and ridden by jockey C Simpson who was accepting his first mount of the meeting The heavy rains of the previous night had turned the tra ck slow slowA A crowd of 12360 was on hand to wit ¬ ness the sport The secondary feature of the afternoon was the Brighton claiming purse at six furlongs for threeyearold platers in the 35003000 claiming group It resulted in a mild upset when Overlin led practically all the way to defeat Pat OSee by a length and a half The stoutly supported choice Mercury although show ¬ ing in front briefly was unable to keep pace and lost whatever chance he may have had by racing wide at the stretch turn i although taking the show award
