MONTE WEIL After sending out Su ¬ matra III to score in the first race on yesterdays Lincoln Fields program he came back with Blue Pom winner of the fourth and feature event the Ivanhoe Purse Nellie L Victorious in Acorn Stakes i iLincoln Lincoln Main Event Easy for Blue Pom Kanopolis Soundly Beaten in Ivanhoe IvanhoeHutchins Hutchins Colorbearer Finds Muddy Strip to His Liking Prominette Proves Repeater RepeaterSTICKNEY STICKNEY 111 May 19 Blue Pom owned by John M Hutchins of Chicago was returned an easy winner of the Ivanhoe Purse sprint of six furlongs for three yearolds which served as the feature of a program of muddy track racing which the Lincoln Fields Jockey Club presented be ¬ fore a surprisingly large crowd at Haw ¬ thorne this afternoon The son of Halcyon and Pomptine ran the threequarters of a mile in i17 and that was good enough to enable him to win by two and a half lengths from John Marschs Kanopolis as Mrs B J Doyles Ever Flying was third thirdVictory Victory of the Hutchins gelding completed a double for his trainer Monte Weil who earlier in the day sent Sumatra HE out for a winning performance performanceBlue Blue Pom lacked early speed and was a good distance back the first half mile but when Barney shook him up in the stretch he responded willingly He took command with a rush approaching the last eighth and easily held his advantage the rest of the way wayKanopolis Kanopolis making his first start of the year also lacked early speed and he too closed well though he was not quite good enough for the winner In taking the place however he was two lengths in advance of the tiring Ever Flying who paced the field until the winner came along to take the lead Fourth to complete the distance was Navy Cross who forced the pace for a half mile Water Tower Disappoints DisappointsWater Water Tower who was a slight favorite over the winner showed speed for about half the distance and then gave way so badly he wound up in last place Iron Works was the only other starter As the second choice in the wagering Blue Pom paid 660 for 2 2The The eightyearold mare Sumatra UL flying the silks of Mrs Monte Weil was a driving winner of the first race in which nine platers met at six and a half furlongs She had speed from the beginning but F A Smith had to keep after her all through the home stretch to protect the narrow advantage she held over the more favored Votum who was finishing second for the third straight time Red Berry led home the others in the field of nine nineAnother Another mare not quite so old won the sixfurlong second race when Woolford Farms Virginia Rose proved herself the best in a field of fouryearolds and older hprses Virginia Rose a sixyearold fol ¬ lowed SharpshelFs pace to the head ofthe home stretch and then took command her self holding her advantage the rest of the theContinued Continued on Page Twenty Blue Pom Has Little Trouble Winning Dash DashPasses Passes Wire More Than Two Lengths Ahead of Kanopolis KanopolisContinued Continued from Page One Oneway way At the wire Nick Jemas had her in front by a length and a half After giving up the lead Sharpshell remained in second position to the end while Chicwin was a distant third Virginia Rose was the favor ¬ ite iteProminette Prominette owned by R Conino and rid ¬ den by D Hauer scored a popular victory in the third race also at six furlongs Among the leaders from the beginning she responded to strong handling in the final quarter and eventually got the decision by a neck as Just for Fun ran second and Timocracy third The latter showed the way for five furlongs by a good margin but she weakened badly thereafter and was soundly beaten for the place Just for Fun upset Jemas after the race but the rider escaped with a mud bath
