Attractive Opening Card at Fairmount FairmountLeigh Leigh Expects Large and Representative Field to Race in Handicap Event EventCOLLTNSVILLE COLLTNSVILLE 111 May 26 Although entries for the Inaugural Handicap most valuable and important race on Saturdays opening day program of the Fairmount Park Jockey Club do not close until tomor ¬ row R A Leigh racing secretary at the local course is confident that the event will draw a large and representative field from among the fastest performers here hereThe The Inaugural is open to horses three years old and upward and will be contested over the sixfurlong distance The race carries a purse of 1200 1200Of Of seven other events on the program for Saturday a sixfurlong purse event for threeyearolds and an allowance race for twoyearolds to be run at four and one half furlongs will bring out the better fields Other races carded are under claim ¬ ing conditions conditionsDistance Distance Racing Memorial Day DayDistance Distance racing will be the keynote of Fairmount Parks second or Memorial Day presentation as half of the eight races to be offered on the Monday holiday will be at distances of one mile and 70 yards or more The Decoration Day program will have its principal attraction in the 1200 Memorial Day Handicap for threeyear olds and upward at one mile and 70 yards Entries for this event will close on Friday FridayIf If staged under favorable conditions the Saturday and holiday sport is expected to draw large crowds thereby getting the local season off to a successful and aus ¬ picious start Officials believe that the meeting will prove one of the best held here since the predepression days daysWhile While ample racing material for the meeting is on the grounds officials have decided to approve late stall requests from owners of horses of quality and a number of such performers may be added to the local colony before the curtain rises on the first race Saturday SaturdayGeneral General manager D C Burnett calls spe ¬ cial attention to the new starting time for the first race at 300 p m It has been 2 00 p m in the past and the change was made so as to facilitate traffic conditions and generally comply with the government regulations It also is announced that the Daily Double a betting feature which for ¬ merly was conducted on the second and third races now will be held on the firsb and second races beginning opening day
