Fine Sport in Store For Fairmount Fans FansStable Stable Area Nearly All Filled With Horses Awaiting Opening OpeningCOLLINSVILLE COLLINSVILLE 111 May 27 As the Fairmount Park Jockey Club prepares to open its 28day summer meeting on Sat ¬ urday it is apparent that this southern Illinois facing center willv tage some of the finest sport fans of this sector have been offered in several years Fairmounts commodious stable area is nearly filled with horses and among them are many widely known among turf fans a condi ¬ tion that augurs well for the many handi ¬ caps and allowance features that stud the local program programRacing Racing fans of this section will get an early opportunity to judge the quality of thoroughbreds which will be seen here throughout the season for two big handi caps are carded for this weekend which mbraces programs Saturday and Monday Decoration Day The opening feature is the Fairmount Inaugural Handicap at six furlongs and Mondays topljner is the Memorial Day Handicap at a mile and 70 yards Thus the two programs promise to bring tout the best sprinters and distance runners on the scene sceneFans Fans will get a more definite line on the caliber of horses available for the Fair mount meeting for then entries will be drawn for the Inaugural program programMeanwhile Meanwhile general manager D C Bur ¬ nett and his associates were busy today with lastminute preparations for the open ¬ ing The plan is in shipshape order and all of the department heads are on the scene to lend a hand with final details detailsDiscussing Discussing the meeting general manager Burnett said today that he believes the season will be a successful one even in the face of private transportation diffi ¬ culties We have splendid bus service from St Louis he said and I dont think our regulars will have much trouble getting here Even in normal times public transit lines conveyed a good percentage of our patrons
