Lincoln Fields Meeting Only Eight Days Away AwayPreparations Preparations Being Pushed for Session to Be Held at Hawthorne HawthorneWith With the opening of the annual Lincoln Fields meeting little more than a week away preparations for the session which will inaugurate the local major track sea ¬ son are being pushed at the Hawthorne course where it will be held heldThe The meeting will begin on Tuesday May 16 and embracing 29 days will not con ¬ clude until Saturday June 17 It will be conducted by the Lincoln Fields Jockey Club of which Stuyvesant Peabody and Col Matt J Winn are president and man ¬ aging director respectively respectivelyAttracting Attracting to Chicago a number of the countrys outstanding thoroughbreds and all of the many strong turf establishments whose colors have been seen here in pre ¬ vious seasons the meeting will offer rac ¬ ing of the highest caliber The richer events to be run include six stakes each endowed with 5000 in added money They are the Crete Francis S Peabody Memo ¬ rial Steger LaSalle and Lincoln Handicaps and the Joliet Stakes StakesAll All of the handicaps will draw their starting fields from horses three years old or older while the Joliet is reserved for juveniles Entries for the six features which will be presented on the five Satur ¬ days and one holiday encompassed by the dates closed several days ago and accord ¬ ing to track officials all events received the usual large and representative re ¬ sponses from horsemen horsemenOn On Wednesday the offices of the Lin ¬ coln Fields Jockey Club will open at the track Meanwhile C Bruce Head presidr ing steward Russell Sweeney general manager and James T Clark assistant to racing secretary William H Shelley will arrive from Kentucky to push preparations for the meeting
