Explains New Apprentice Rule RuleDETROIT DETROIT Mich June 7 The Fair Grounds stewards and representatives of jockeys riding here held an informal ses ¬ sion Monday at which presiding steward Jack S Young went to some length to ex ¬ plain the newly instituted rule pertaining to the apprentice allowance He considered it expedient to further clarify the allowance of 10 pounds now permitted the appren ¬ tices As he pointed out it applies only to apprentices contracted to an owneer or trainer for no less than three years and until he has ridden 40 winners If the 40 winners are piloted within the years period the apprentice may for the balance of that year claim a fivepound allowance and should he remain with his contract em ¬ ployer after forfeiting the 10 pounds al ¬ lowance he will be entitled to a fivepound allowance for a year from the day he rode his fortieth winner
