Race for Novice Riders Presented at Detroit DetroitApprentices Apprentices Who Have Ridden Sparingly Assigned Mounts MountsDETROIT DETROIT Mich June 8 A race in which entrants are to be ridden by novice jockeys specifically apprentice lads who have as yet done very little riding steals the spotlight after a fashion from tomor ¬ rows headliner at the Fair Grounds the Pierce Purse The feature is fifth on the eightrace program and is an allowance event fashioned solely for threeyearolds It is to be decided over six furlongs and carries a 2500 purse purseIntroduction Introduction of a race for novice jockeys is somewhat of a novelty hereabouts any ¬ way It has its own attraction and no doubt will be quite an entertaining exhibit At this time it is understood such appren ¬ tices will perform as D Massey P Smoth ¬ ers L Pruett R Haddix S Brumfield and P Lyons LyonsStrangely Strangely enough the horses these lads are to ride in this third number are about as little known as the riders themselves Entered for the fivefurlong fracas which appropriately enough has been titled the Novice Purse are Epi Gal Valdina Delia Axelson Dreamy Eyes Alfadildo Valdina Phao Kiss Kiss Gray Dottie Beth B and Ebony Tune That ruling body considered it expedient to prohibit more than 10 start ¬ ers so as to guard against any infraction to racing due to apprentices riding ridingThe The main offering will engage such as Valdina Brave What a Play Playhands Play Bob Good Going Chief Knocker Toaca Kings Mount and Mrs Norman Hernandez entry of Darby Doulton and Valdina Senora This pair probably will rule favorite The former has been success ¬ ful here Valdina Senora on the other hand met rather stiff opposition in her lone essay but should do much better against rivals on this occasion Last year she was a prime favorite at this track cap ¬ turing quite a few races Others in the tilt also have been seen in action here Valdina Brave has as yet failed to win but has indicated approaching top form and it may be that this one will be right there or thereabouts Good Going too could prove dangerous while Playhands is not to be taken lightly lightlySprints Sprints predominate Six dashes are up for decision while the seventh and eighth races are at a mile and onesixteenth Post time for the first race is 430 p m
