Arlington Washington Increase Seven Stakes StakesBeverly Beverly Is Now 25000 and andChicago Chicago Handicap 20000 HOMEWOOD 111 June 22 Noteworthy increases were announced today in the added values of three Arlington and four Washington Park stakes to be decided dur ¬ ing the 66 remaining days of their com ¬ bined meetings As the result of an in ¬ crease of 5000 each the Arlington Matron now is enriched with 15000 the Myrtle wood Handicap 15000 the Cleopatra Handicap 15000 Great Western Handi ¬ cap 15000 Dick Welles Handicap 15000 and the Beverly Handicap 25000 The largest individual increase one of 10000 was effected in the Chicago Hand ¬ icap which now has an added worth of 20000 20000The The total amount spread over the seven stakes is 40000 The Matron Myrtlewood and Cleopatra are Arlington annuals the other quartet Washington attractions attractionsIn In announcing these increases Benjamin F Lindheimer executive director of the two tracks said We are balancing our program to provide adequate rewards for horses of all ages sex and types of ability We realize that the performance of sprinters is of great interest to the public so we wish to offer purses big enough to develop this type of racing The response of public and horsemen to the high quality of our previously announced program has encouraged us to continue our efforts to provide a perfectly balanced schedule We want the owners of all types of horses to have a chance for substantial earnings
