MATHIAS CTY SHEA Racing secre ¬ tary at Narragansett Park who has re ¬ vealed the tracks stake program for its coming summer meeting DAILY RACING FORM Two New Stakes Among Eleven On Narragansett Park Roster Dates for 25000 Special And Other Events to Be Set Soon for Summer Meeting MeetingPAWTUCKET PAWTUCKET R I June 22 Eleven stakes including two new fixtures the Newport Stakes and the John E Martin Handicap will be run during the 42 day summer meeting at Narragansett Park be ¬ ginning August 14 racing secretary Mat ¬ thias C Ty Shea announced here today following a conference with James E Dooley president and executive director of the Narragansett Racing Association Inc The Newport for twoyearolds colts and geldings fills a hitherto open spot on the schedule The Jeanne DArc long fix ¬ ture here affords a chance for twoyear old fillies and both sexes can meet in the 10000 James H Connors Memorial regular feature of the Labor Day card The John E Martin a sprint affair for three yearolds and upward is named in memory of the wellbeloved Rhode Island racing administrator who lost his life in Miami two winters ago The actual dates of the stakes running will not be set until Shea has conferred with Jack Campbell racing secretary at all New York tracks and Charles McLennan racing secretary at Garden State so as to avoid unnecessary clashes that would rob competing tracks of star performers How ¬ ever the list can be set forth as follows with dates to be filled in later laterPawtucket Pawtucket Handicap 5000 threeyearolds and upward Six Furlongs FurlongsNewport Newport Stakes 5000 twoyear olds Colts and geldings Six Fur ¬ longs longsKing King Philip Handicap 5000 threeyearolds and upward One and onesixteenth miles milesJohn John E Martin Handicap 5000 threeyearolds and upward Six Furlongs FurlongsJeanne Jeanne DArc Stakes 5000 twoyearolds Fillies Six Fur ¬ longs longsNew New England Oaks 10000 three yearolds Fillies One and one sixteenth miles milesMary Mary Dyer Handicap 5000 threeyearolds and upward Fillies and mares One and onesixteenth miles milesJames James H Connors Memorial 10000 twoyearolds Six Furlongs FurlongsJames James C Thornton Handicap 5000 threeyearolds and upward upwardSix Six Furlongs FurlongsNarragansett Narragansett Special 25000 threeyearolds and upward One and threesixteenth miles milesGovernors Governors Handicap 5000 threeyearolds and upward One mile and 70 yards yardsThe The minimum purse at the meeting will be 1500 Also in effect will be the Trainers Award system which adds 100 to the value of every purse This will be divided 50 to the trainer of the winner 25 to the second 15 to the third and 10 to the fourth The grooms award and bonus system as instituted at the spring meeting will also be continued with 5 awarded to each groom leading a starter to the paddock and an extra 10 to the groom who brings over the winner of the race By announcing the scale at this time Dooley feels he may set at rest any doubt in the minds of horsemen as to their future plans plansStall Stall applications have been pouring into the popular Gansett course and many ad ¬ ditional ones have been received following the announcement that several California tracks will not open as had been hoped The stall committee will not decide upon accommodations until July 1 but all horse ¬ men planning to race at Gansett shpuld have their applications in before that date Stake books will be mailed out before July 1 and nominations to all stakes will close August 1 Post time has been set at 230 pm
