Favorites and Second Choices Prevail In Early Races on Thistle Down Card Warren Yarberry Saddles i Two Winners for Wife in Keen Slats, Jay Stevens NORTH RANDALL, Ohio, June 1.— Favorites and second choices dominated the early part of todays sport program witnessed by 2.500 fans and witnessed by the Thistle Down officials at Randall Park. The racing was highlighted by the riding of Johnny Glaug. He piloted a double in A. L. Birchs Whosaidit in the second, hustling that daughter of Agrarian to the front shortly after the start, and N. Thomas Pari King in the fourth. This six furlongs affair was named for a former "regular" hereabouts, the late Kentuckian Dan Lehan. As a second choice to Wildebeest, who, incidentally, finished second a half length behind after setting most of the pace. Pari King rewarded at .40 and was clocked the six furlongs over a muddy strip in 1:16. Third position went to Alchanc, who with Beamy, was entered this morning when the race was reopened. Rains during the night brought about withdrawals and in order to have at least the semblance of a representative field racing secretary L. Henderson Van Zandt accepted entries » — after scratch time this morning. Glaug permitted Pari King to dally along some distance behind the pace during the early running while Wildebeest had difficulty first shaking off Manda and then Alchanc. But once the turn was reached Pari King was hustled up and he hooked Wildebeest in the stretch. The two dueled from there on, with the Thomas seven-year-old finally edging out in front. The combination of Whosaidit, heroine of the second race, and C. C. Heverlys Bright as Gold, who came from near the pace to eke out a nose decision over Sagalie Tyee in the opener, returned 2.40 for to those who coupled the pair in the Daily Double. Whosaidit negotiated the six furlongs in 1:1725 and as a .20 choice. Another fa-, vorite succeeded in the third when Mrs. Warren A. Yarberry s Keen Slats, installed at 2 to 1, came from near the pace to take over from Pops Rival and score by a length and three-parts while rounding out the six panels in 1:1645. Fur Coat was third. Mrs. Yarberry s colors were carried to a second triumph of the day in the fifth race when Jay Stevens arrived at the finish eight lengths in advance of Rolls Day for his second victory at the meeting. Heavily supported in the wagering. Jay Stevens paid .40 and was timed the six furlongs in 1:10%. High Baggage finished third.
