Clang Handicap, First of Arlingtons Stakes, Draws Twenty-One Eligibles Occupy, Harriet Sue, Traffic Court Among Candidates For Wednesdays Headliner HOMEWOOD, 111., June 22. — While preparations were being made for Mondays opening of the Arlington Park Jockey Clubs meeting at Washington Park, i cing secretary Fred Burton announced there are 21 nominations for the 0,000 Clang Handicap, the first stake on an elaborate summer program. The Clang is a sprint of six furlongs for three-year-olds and older to be run next Wednesday and it drew a powerful field, including several who lent luster to the racing here the last two years. Standing out prominently on the list of eligibles are John Marschs Occupy, hero of the Washington Park Futurity two summers ago. Hyman Friedbergs Harriet Sue, who last season won the Arlington Matron Handicap: Miller and Burgers Traffic Court, star of the 1944 Beverly Handicap, and Coward and Du Puys Appleknocker. who a year ago won the Dick Welles Handicap. Occupy. Harriet Sue and Traffic Court already are on the scene, while Appleknocker is due from California. Some of the other stars in the Clang Handicap are A. S. Higgins" Quizzle. winner at Hawthorne of the Crete and Francis S. Peabody Memorial Handicaps: Mrs. Frank Nugents Espino Gold, who dead-heated Quizzle for top honors in Peabody; Woolford Farms Signator and Silvestra, David Straus Daily Trouble, Lucas B. Combs Durazna, Ruth Sidells Burgoo Maid and Mrs. H. J. Damms Zacapet. Release Weights Today Burton today was busy fixing his weights for the Clang and he expects to have them ready for publication tomorrow. After owners and trainers of the eligibles have had an opportunity to study them the field for the mid-week feature will take definite shape. Burton also was giving attention to the closing of nominations Monday for two more important features, the 5,000 Hyde Park Stakes and the equally rich Princess Doreen Stakes. The Hyde Park, which usually serves as a preview of Arlington Futurity candidates, is a spin of five and one-half furlongs for two-year-olds and the Princess Doreen is a six-furlong test for three-year-old fillies. Both of these .features will be presented on Arlingtons first Saturday program a week from tomorrow. Meanwhile. Arlington department heads " were busy with last minute preparations for Mondays opening. Many horses were being transferred here today from Hawthorne, where the season ends tomorrow, and stalls were being made ready for additional arrivals from points as far away as New York and California.
