Work on Initial Issue Of Monmouth Book Run Three Stakes First Twelve Days; Horses to Arrive Monday MONMOUTH PARK, Long Branch, N. J., May 30. Racing secretary John Turner, Jr., will open his offices at Monmouth Park on Monday, June 2, simultaneously with the arrival of the first horses for the coming June 19-July 30 meeting. Turner is now putting the final touches to his first condition book, covering the opening 12-day period of the meeting, and this will be in the hands of horsemen this week. The first condition book embraces three of the 12 cataloged stakes, the opening-day Colleen Stakes for two-year-old fillies, the Oceanport Handicap on Saturday, June 21, for three-year-olds and upward, at six furlongs, and the June 28 renewal of the Long Branch Handicap at a mile and a sixteenth, also for older thoroughbreds. In addition to Saturday stakes, mid-week features ranging to 0,000 added are to be written into subsequent conditions, with a final total of 55,000 in added money over the even dozen handicaps. A minimum puse of ,500 will be provided at Monmouth Park, according to Turners book, with daily features ranging to ,000. Particular attention is being paid to the youngsters, two-year-olds and three-year-olds finding ample opportunity to share in the purse distribution. Turner already has provided many distance races for horses favoring a route of ground, events always popular among the racing patrons. 1 Conditions are pitched higher in the initial book than was true a year ago at the inaugural meeting, due to the better quality of horses seeking stabling space at the northern New Jersey course. The first of these horses will reach Monmouth Park over the coming week-end for a brief freshening-up before continuing in active training for the June 19 inaugural of the season.
