Frenchtown Carries Off Honors at Atlantic City Leads Musician Oyer Two Lengths In Worlds Playground Stakes ATLANTIC CITY, Mays Landing, N. J., May 30. Frenchtown, carrying the green and white colors of Walter M. Jeffords and confidently ridden by Willie Balzaretti won the Worlds Playground Stakes this afternoon before a record-breaking Memorial Day crowd, and, incidentally upset a brand new track record himself as he stepped the five furlongs in :59. Musician, from the Brookmeade Stable, was second in the small, but select field of four, beaten two and a half lengths and just outlasting Still Champ. From the drop of the flag this first renewal of the 0,000 Worlds Playground was a tussle between the top pair, both very highly regarded juveniles with many stakes engagements ahead of them this summer. Frenchtown was the first to show in front as the quartet left the gate to a good start, but Jessop had Musician right "after him on the rail. Well detached, these two raced head and head all down the back-stretch, but Musician had the slightest possible advantage and appeared to be running easily. In spite of a cloudy and cold morning, following a heavy rain the night before, the large crowd, estimated at 23,000 began to fill the park at noon and by race time stands, clubhouse and lawn were packed. Still lapped, Musician and Frenchtown rounded the bend and now Still Champ, with Stout driving very hard, made up a lot of ground to come within a length of the leaders on the outside. As they straightened for home Balzaretti commenced to really ride Frenchtown and the gelded son of Littletown French Gray answered the appeal like a good youngster, drawing gradually away. Frenchtown had the best of the battle a furlong out and from there he e it was coasting. Musician managed to hold Still Champ safe but he was a well beaten odds-on favorite at the end of the trip.
