R EMMETT POTTS Sent out Piet to take Ral Parr Stakes in his seasonal bow Pief Makes Auspicious Return To Races in Winning Ral Parr Arlington Futurity Victor Has TwoLength Advantage AdvantageOver Over Bovard at Pimlico PIMLICO Baltimore Md May 4 Piet a sprightly threeyearold son of Grand Slam and Valdina Lark who races for the Bomar Stable of C A Bohn and P A Markey made his seasonal debut a victor ¬ ious one this afternoon in accounting for the sixfurlong Ral Parr StakeK featured event on Pimlicos program today todayPiet Piet who garnered 93360 in purses last year largely through his victory in the rich Arlington Futurity scampered home two lengths in advance of Sylvester WLabrotj Jrs Bovard with Mrs J V Stewarts Dr Almac third Calumets Whirl Blast Alan Clarks Fritz Maisel and Mr Vanlear Blacks Golden Reigh completed the field fieldPiets Piets earnings for the Ral Parr were 6445 Approximately 12000 fans which constitutes a fair Tuesday crowd were on hand for the Ral Parr which was formerly the Rennert Stakes and despite Piets en ¬ viable record he was somewhat overlooked by the bettors He paid 880 as second choice to Dr Almac The track was termed slow and Piet was timed in 114 under the capable Mike Corona CoronaLooms Looms Preakness Probable ProbablePiet Piet who may have earned an opportu ¬ nity to meet Citation in the Preakness through todays victory handled his 124 pound assignment as though it were a feather He outsprinted the field from the sixfurlong chute and was never seriously threatened as Corona used only mild pressure in the final stages stagesDr Dr Almac gave pursuit along the back stretch followed by Whirl Blast and Fritz Maisel Whirl Blast dropped back on the turn not that he lacked the speed to keep up but he was quite rank and was apparently too much horse for Hedley Woodhouse Bovard was a trailer at this stage stageBovard Bovard commenced a rally leaving the turn and rapidly joined the merry chase for Piet Fritz Maisel who seemed to be weak ¬ ening slightly was impeded through the stretch when Whirl Blast continued to be rank and Bovard showed a mild tendency to lug for the rail Bovards rally was by no means threatening to Piet and as a matter of fact was all he could do to earn the place by a nose over Dr Almac Both Piet and Bovard still considered possibil ¬ ities for the Preakness although the former must be given the edge off his race today His time while not sensational was suffi ¬ cient considering the condition of the track and it must be remembered his first race since finishing fourth to Citation last fall in the Pimlico Futurity
