Two Handicaps Opening OpeningDay Day at Cranwood Park ParkGeauga Parkt t Geauga Lake and Inaugural Events Top May 12 Program ProgramCLEVELAND CLEVELAND Ohio May 6 The Cran ¬ wood race track will open its gates next Wednesday May 12 for a 19day meeting and president George W Tipling and gen ¬ eral manager George W Lewis of the Ohio course believe that the session will be most 1 successful The recent announcement that the minimum purse at Cranwood will be 1000 and the publication of the first con ¬ dition book which lists many races at higher purse valuations attracted a num ¬ ber of better stables and there will be plenty of thoroughbreds on hand when the Buck ¬ eye State racing gets under way here next week weekThe The Cranwood session will be closely co ¬ ordinated with the River Downs sport which will be inaugurated on June 19 and run until August 7 Many of the stronger establishments now quartered here are to transfer to the Queen City course immedi ¬ ately after the conclusion of the local meet and the same roster of officials on duty here is to administer the River Downs racing Racing secretary and handicapper L J Giles has listed two handicaps or the Cran ¬ wood opening day card the 1500 Geauga Lake Handicap at six furlongs for three yearolds and upward and the Cranwood InauguraKHandicap one mile and onesix ¬ teenth for horses from the same age di visiqns Entries for the two features will close on Monday May 10 and weights are to be posted on Tuesday May 11 Eight other top attractions will be de icided during the Cranwood meeting and these range in values of 2000 to 3000 The Memorial Day Handicap one mile and onesixteenth the Cleveland Plain Dealer Handicap at the same route the sixfurlong Cleveland Press Handicap sixfurlong Cleveland News Handicap all of which are for threeyearolds and upward are valued at 3000 The Hotel Cleveland Handicap Statler Hotel Handicap Tudor Arms Hand ¬ icap and the Hollenden Hotel Handicap are worth 2000 each
