Twelve Enrollees in Detroit Jockey School Await Opportunity to Don Silks Novices to Ride in First Event onEach Days Card Of Meet Opening Tomorrow TomorrowFAIR FAIR GROUNDS Detroit Mich May 20 A check with Harry Trotsek who is in charge of the jockey school conducted by the Detroit Racing Association reveals that an even dozen embryo riders are ready to don silks in races confined to novice jockeys which opens the program at this Motor City course when the 85day meeting gets under way on Saturday The number of novice pilots will be increased from the list of 25 applicants who are on file and by the arrival of boys affiliated with sta ¬ bles that have not yet been registered registeredPreference Preference has been given to boys be ¬ tween the ages of 16 and 18 who have had some high school education or who have shown a natural talent with thoroughbreds All the boys ready to ride have had at least one years experience with horses The De ¬ troit Racing Association goes to consider ¬ able expense for the training of these lads but general manager George W Lewis feels gratified when the school is able to turn out a few capable saddlesmiths such as W M Cook J Duff J Stanton and J Stewart who were graduated last year Racing secretary Charles F Henry has as signed the first race on the program each day to the novices novicesMichigans Michigans racing commissioner Lewis L Bredin is enthusiastic in his support of the school as is commission steward Joseph A Murphy who has been its stanch sup ¬ porter since its inception Perhaps the boys get their greatest encouragement from the public which follows closely the progress of the lads C E Groves has been ap pointe by the Detroit Racing Association to make the engagements for the novices who are listed here with their ages and their home cities L F Hulstander 19 Hialeah Fla Thomas Fico 19 Rochester N Y Donald Miller 20 Providence R L J La Montagne 18 Lawrence Mass F Perticarri 18 New York City Louis Cook 18 Harlan Ky E Stoner 19 Plymouth N Y Ronald Brigley 19 New York City Lawrence Aliseo 17 New York City Gene Jordan 17 Montrose Colo Bruno Men tessl 18 Cleveland Ohio and Joseph Heater 18 Indianapolis Ind IndInterest Interest is running high in the program for the local inaugural of the season on Saturday when the card will be highlighted by the running of three feature races chief of which is the 10000 Boots and Saddles Handicap a test at six furlongs for three yearolds and older which is certain to attract the best sprinters quartered on the grounds The leadliner will be hard pressed to maintain the center of interest from the chief of the supporting races which is the Man o War Handicap at one mile and a sixteenth for a prize of 7500 In addition to these attractions twoyearolds will mee at five furlongs in the Inaugural Purse and there is an exceptionally fine lot of juveniles on the grounds to guarantee an I exciting contest
