Easy Al Scores in First Outing of 1948 Season SeasonSustains Sustains Neck Advantage Over Octorora in Suffolk Downs Dash DashSUFFOLK SUFFOLK DOWNS East Boston Mass May 24 The combination of O B Bur ¬ ghera Easy Al and Jockey Fernando Fer ¬ nandez proved successful in the sixth and featured race of the afternoon here at Suffolk Downs today Making his seasonal debut Easy Al sustained a neck advantage over the efforts of Myharriet Stables Oc ¬ torora who was a half length before the favored Brookmeade Stables Lucky Devil Turning the six furlongs in 1 the winner served notice that he has regained the speed that made him one of the better juveniles in New England early last year yearThe The nine threeyearolds that included Mrs Weston W Adams entry of Chuckalot and Jury Rig were sent away fronKthe barrier in good alignment and it was not until they had traveled a furlong that day ¬ light was prominent Easy Al held a slight advantage before reaching the far turn closely followed by MrTolson and Jury Rig The favored Lucky Devil was a length back with the rider anxious to reach the leaders and making the mistake of taking his charge out in the middle of the track trackMidway Midway on the turn Fernandez had roused the Easy Mon colt and drew into a length lead with Hettinger on Jury Rig taking up the role of runnerup which was shortlived Meanwhile Dickey astride the Brookmeade colt was beginning to make up ground still out in the middle of the track Octorora was saving ground under the veteran Bill Turnbull and it was evi ¬ dent he was the one to beat when the test came cameNearing Nearing the furlong pole Lucky Devil was placed under a drive drew close to the leaders then appeared to hang Octo ¬ rora had drawn abreast of Easy Al but the game colt unleashed a final spurt yards from the wire and was drawing out again The positions of the first three failed to change in the final sixteenth with the others far back
