Hilda Merely Toys With Detroit Foes FoesWoodward Woodward Miss Dominates Running of Maytime Purse Best Prospect Runs Second SecondFAIR FAIR GROUNDS Detroit Mich May 25 Hilda racing for O F Woodward of Reno signaled her return to racing after her winter rest in a very convincing man ¬ ner when she toyed with five opposing threeyearolds to lope across the finish line slightly more than two lengths before her nearest rival in the featured Maytime Purse at this course today The daughter of Hypnotist n and Dame Mariechen cov ¬ ered the six furlongs in an excellent 110 under jockej Harry Hart and her margin of victory could have been greater had her rider so desired Best Prospect was a fast finishing but thoroughly beaten second for Leo Caillouette and was a length and a half before J F Smiths Montayr who raced coupled with the winner winnerHilda Hilda dominated the race from the out ¬ set spurting clear immediately after the start and quickly disposing of Montes Ace who attempted to run with her while on the inside On the turn Cotton Joe who had been next in line took up the pace forcing task and moved to Hilda in a stout but futile bid Hart had only to give his charge her head to see her draw away but the bid of Cotton Joe took its toll and he fell back soundly trounced trouncedMontayr Montayr Props at Star Meanwhile Best Prospect had been un ¬ able to threaten while racing evenly in fourth place but through the stretch un ¬ leashed a burst of speed that found him moving into second place but Hilda was just coasting in frc t and was not threat ¬ ened Montayr had propped after the start but when in stride he was able tp move into closer contention gradually and fin ¬ ishing stoutly gained third place over the faltering Cotton Joe JoeA A crowd of 8789 was on hand for the sport which was conducted under partly cloudy skies as a mild breeze fanned the course courseNovice Novice rider Charles Pennock a 19year old lad from Camden N J kept his record intact when he brought home Pebbles Bugler in the first race to register his third tally in as many races for novices at the meeting This is the first time in the theContinued Continued on Page Three Hilda Returns to Competition At Detroit in Winning Form FormContinued Continued from Page One Onehistory history of the Detroit Jockey School that the feat has been accomplished Pennock steadied Pebbles Bugler closest to the pace of Doctor L M and swept around the lat ¬ ter entering the stretch to draw into a length advantage as the wire was reached Doctor L M drifted out entering the home lane but the winner overcame this handi ¬ cap to earn the award The race developed I into a twohorse affair and seven lengths back Mannerful was third thirdIn In the second race the starting field was reduced to seven with the withdrawal on the order of the stewards of Hasty House Farms Delovely Lil when the markings on her registration papers did not conform with the markings on the threeyearold filly who has never started The race was further marred when Wendamor lost her rider after the start The winner turned up in R Coons Donquest who loped home under wraps with a sixlength advantage over his nearest rival We Hope who was easily best of the others who were led by Sky Fancy FancyPebbles Pebbles Bugler and Donquest formed a Daily Double worth 2800 and the con ¬ solation Double from Pebbles Bugler to the scratched Delovely Lil paid 1000
