TRA Will Assist Stricken Turfmen TurfmenTo To Aid Owners Trainers Jockeys Grooms Exercise Boys at Portland Meadows MeadowsBELMONT BELMONT PARK Elmont L I N Y June 4 Horsemen and stable help quar ¬ tered at Portland Meadows which is in the flood area of Oregon are to receive prompt assistance it was announced today todayPresident President James E Dooley of the Thor ¬ oughbred Racing Associations of the United States Inc stated that the TRA was taking immediate steps to aid the horsemen jockeys grooms and exercise boys who are suffering as a result of the flood disaster at Portland Ore Edmund P Coffey representing the TRA is presently at Portland making a survey of conditions there After the survey is completed TRA directors will consider the necessary action on the part of member tracks to alleviate the conditions now facing horsemen In the meantime TRA funds will be utilized to aid the more destitute destituteThe The TRA pointed out that these funds will be used exclusively to alleviate the suf ¬ fering of horsemen jockeys grooms etc and not for the Portland Meadows Racing Association It was pointed out that this action was being taken by the TRA because of the plight of horsemen irrespective of the fact that the Portland Meadows Rac ¬ ing Association is not a member of the TRA LOS ANGELES Calif June 4 William P Kyne general manager of the illfated Portland Meadows Race Track informed DAILY RACING FORM this morning that the horsemen are among the worst sufferers in the flood area areaMost Most of the owners trainers jockeys grooms and other racetrack employes lived in Vanport which was annihilated in the path of the onrushing water and are all left destitute having lost all their per ¬ sonal belongings belongingsKyne Kyne was to confer with Edmund Coffey representative sent to Portland by the TRA to survey the situation and report as to the necessary relief measures to be taken immediately immediatelyHOLLYWOOD HOLLYWOOD PARK Inglewood Calif June 4 Frank W Clark vicepresident of the Golden Gate Fields today announced that he had forwarded a check for 5000 to William P Kyne to be used for the aid of the turfmen stricken by the unprece ¬ dented floods in that area and which forced the cancellation of the Portland Meadows meeting
