McShanes Gay Secret accounted for the show award two and onehalf lengths back of the closely lapped leaders leadersNine Nine better class thoroughbreds met in the Best Seller and Pad Lock carried 119 pounds under the conditions of the sprint Running time for the headliner was 112 and the victor who won his second straight purse here was a 4 to 5 choice choiceApprentice Apprentice Eldon Nelson Glen after starter White sent the Best Seller field on its way Pad Lock held a clear lead enter ¬ ing the stretch and he appeared an easy winner as he passed the furlong pole Slamaranth however had something left and responding well to Mike Coronas urg ¬ ing the Bomar gelding closed strongly but could not quite overtake the victor and just missed missedSlamaranths Slamaranths determined challenge was short of victory by a narrow margin but he easily attained second honors over Gay Secret who also gave a sharp performance Shady Brook Farms Gotham ran fourth in the Best Seller while the onetime stakes stars Old Kentuck and Historian finished sixth and eighth respectively respectivelyPartly Partly cloudy weather and occasional flash showers were the order at the South Side course Sala Lou rounded out a successful Daily Double combination worth 21460 21460Alpine Alpine Escort achieved his victory by a scant margin in the first race which matched an even dozen 2500 class platers Hard ridden through the stretch by Del Jessop the California invader was up in the final strides to beat H G Knotts Delorah second by a length and three quarters before James Emerys Toy Bomb Delorah entered the stretch with a short advantage and Alpine Escort then began his bid from fourth position and on the inside the two leaders battling it out de ¬ terminedly to the final marker the Brock
